About the role
We are seeking an experienced Senior Chemist specializing in VOA/SVOA analysis using GC-MS instrumentation to join our environmental laboratory in Conroe, TX.
Responsibilities
- Perform and oversee VOA and SVOA analysis on environmental and quality control samples using EPA methods and laboratory procedures
- Operate, calibrate, maintain, optimize, and troubleshoot GC/MS, purge-and-trap, and related laboratory instrumentation
- Serve as the technical lead for troubleshooting analytical methods, instrumentation, data anomalies, and complex laboratory issues
- Review, validate, and approve analytical data, calculations, and laboratory documentation to ensure technical accuracy, quality, and regulatory compliance
- Support method development, validation, optimization, transfer, and implementation
- Lead investigations involving non-conformances, method deviations, quality concerns, root cause analysis, CAPA, and corrective actions
- Maintain compliance with laboratory safety requirements, quality systems, accreditation standards, and regulatory requirements
- Provide technical leadership, mentorship, and training on analytical methods, instrumentation, and laboratory best practices
- Develop and maintain SOPs and support audits, proficiency testing, and continuous improvement initiatives
- Partner with laboratory leadership to improve workflow efficiency, data integrity, operational performance, and turnaround times
- Perform other duties as assigned
Requirements
- Bachelor's Degree in Chemistry, Environmental Science, or a related scientific discipline
- 5+ years of progressive, hands-on analytical laboratory experience performing VOA/SVOA analysis, including operating, maintaining, troubleshooting, and optimizing gas chromatography–mass spectrometry (GC/MS) instrumentation
- Demonstrated expertise in method development, validation, optimization, troubleshooting, and analytical problem-solving
- Strong knowledge of EPA methodologies, QA/QC requirements, and environmental laboratory practices
- Experience reviewing analytical data and laboratory documentation for technical accuracy and regulatory compliance
- Ability to provide technical leadership, mentorship, and training within a laboratory environment
- Previous experience with SOP authoring, CAPA processes, and corrective action investigations preferred
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications and Laboratory Information Management Systems (LIMS)

- Must be able to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends, as needed to support operational demands
