About the role

Senior Chemist I position based in Aiken, SC at the Savannah River Site (SRS), providing technical oversight and subject matter expertise for laboratories, supporting analytical operations, method development, and safety management.

Responsibilities

• Provide technical oversight and subject matter expertise for laboratories.
• Provide day-to-day support and analytical oversight of instrument and method development and troubleshooting.
• Contribute to improvement initiatives: procedure/method development, technician skill enhancement/training, data review, error‑free reporting, integrated safety management systems.
• Interpret and evaluate lab results to ensure tolerance within required analytical limits (samples ranging from clean/stable to highly radioactive/unstable).
• Recommend improvements in analytical equipment, procedures, techniques, and method development.
• Collaborate with Engineering, National Lab scientists, and other industry experts.
• Provide quality control specifications to ensure process consistency, quality, and optimal yield performance.
• Perform qualitative and quantitative analyses on liquid, solid, and sludge samples for organic, inorganic, and/or metal constituents.
• Run measurement control program across multiple analytical services for quality assessments/audits.
• Prepare technical reports based on interpretation of analyzed data.
• Interface with off‑site vendors, STR’s, and procurement to establish service subcontracts for lab instrumentation; includes installation and maintenance of equipment.
• Assist in training development and training of lab personnel on proper techniques for operating instrumentation.
• Provide technical leadership to less experienced chemists and technicians.
• Lead shift group to conduct analytical work with highly radioactive materials.
• Act as lead person or technical advisor on small projects.
• Function as person‑in‑charge for preview/review of safety and hazard controls in different laboratory areas.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
