About the role
The Florida Department of Veterans' Affairs is seeking a motivated, dynamic individual to join their skilled nursing facility. The position is based at Alwyn C. Cashe State Veterans’ Nursing Home in Orlando, Orange County, FL.
Responsibilities
- Assist with developing and implementing an activities program, which improves or maintains physical, mental, and social well-being with a varied work schedule that may include weekend, evenings, and holidays.
- Aid in developing activities plan for each resident in accordance with the inter-disciplinary team process.
- Responsible for the documentation of the plan in the resident’s medical record.
- Responsible for initial interview with new residents and input of resident data into the medical record.
- Perform duties of the Activities Director when the Activities Director is unavailable.
- Maintain the activity space and request equipment and supplies for the program and ensure resident safety for individual and/or group activities.
- Provide assistance with Activities of Daily Living (ADLs) such as oral hygiene, bathing, dressing and grooming, hair and nail care, shaving, toileting, assistance with meals, nourishments, and transportation to meal service areas, and mobility.
- Routinely observe, identify, and report resident concerns/needs to supervisor.
- Provide escort to resident appointments when required.
- Complete assignments timely, completely, and accurately.
- Accept assigned duties in a cooperative manner.
- Perform restorative nursing measures.
- Document in the nursing assistant notes the care and treatment provided to the resident and the response or lack of response to care provided.
- Perform simple nursing measures such as but not limited to applying splints and positioning devices, making occupied and unoccupied beds, changing linens, taking vital signs, weights, recording intake and output, etc.
- Follow established performance standards and perform duties according to nursing service policies and procedures.
- Review care plans and perform nursing care as outlined.
- Participate in the development of an individualized plan of care of assigned residents.
- Respond to residents' requests/needs and assure residents have call lights at hand and answer call lights promptly.
- Observe all facility safety, infection control policies and procedures.
- Complete required documentation.
- Consistently work cooperatively with residents, resident’s representatives, facility staff, physicians, consultants, and ancillary service providers.
- Maintain confidentiality of resident.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Must have current licensure as a Certified Nursing Assistant in the state of Florida.
- Willing and able to work some weekends, evenings, and holidays.
- Willing and able to drive a 15-passenger facility van.
- Valid Florida driver’s license.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Good computer skills.
- Current CPR card.
- Successful completion of the employment screening process to include, but not limited to, a national background investigation and drug test.
