About the role

The Central Services Technician is responsible for all task-based Central Services activities. Central Services activities include, but are not limited to: decontamination, assembly, and sterilization of surgical instrumentation, assembly and delivery of surgical and interventional procedure case carts, paring and replenishment of materials, and receiving and distribution of Central Services supplies.

Key responsibilities

  • Decontaminate and assemble surgical instrumentation using an automated Instrument Tracking System
  • Use an electronic handheld ordering device and work with the Materials Coordinator to par, order, and replenish soft supplies in the surgical core, and CS packs storage area
  • Assemble surgical case carts from predetermined preference lists, including surgical instrumentation, peel packs, soft supplies, packs, and implants
  • Ensure quality and accuracy of instrument decontamination, assembly, sterilization, case cart assembly, and supply par and replenishment
  • Select appropriate method of sterilization, verify parameters, and document sterility accurately and appropriately
  • Comply with all department specific policies and procedures
  • Identify and report supply, equipment, and procedure problems to the Operations Supervisor or Manager
  • Work with and under the guidance of the Lead Central Services Technician, Central Services Coordinator, and Materials Coordinator to prioritize tasks in order to support clinical operations effectively and efficiently

Shift

Nights - 11pm - 7am. Occasional Weekends required.

Required qualifications

  • Coursework/Training: Completion of formal Central Services Technician course or successfully challenged Course test
  • Upon hire: National Certified Registered Central Service Technician - Healthcare Sterile Processing Association or National Certified Sterile Processing and Distribution Technician - Certification Board for Sterile Processing and Distribution
  • 3 years related experience with surgical instrumentation in hospital Sterile Processing/Central Services environment

Preferred qualifications

  • Materials management and/or supply chain experience

Pay

$31.68 - $47.05 per hour. The successful candidate's placement on the wage range will be determined based upon relevant job experience and other applicable factors. Additional compensation may be available such as shift differentials, standby/on-call, overtime, premiums, extra shift incentives, or bonus opportunities.
