General Summary of Position: MedStar Health has an opportunity for a Senior Centralized Pharmacy Procurement Specialist in Elkridge, Maryland. This is a Full Time position responsible for managing centralized medication and supply procurement across the system’s distribution center. This role ensures cost-effective purchasing, inventory optimization, regulatory compliance—including DSCSA and 340B requirements—and continuity of supply through proactive shortage and recall management.
Primary Duties And Responsibilities
- Demonstrates behavior consistent with MedStar Health's mission vision goals and objectives.
- Procures medications and supplies to ensure timely and accurate fulfillment of operational needs.
- Performs daily inventory review and executes medication and supply purchasing using approved procurement systems in alignment with contract pricing strategies.
- Maintains the inventory purchase history and cost within the inventory tracking information system. Oversees month end inventory count and adjustments.
- Provides inventory oversight and management including stock rotation and maximizing inventory turns.
- Ensures timely and accurate receipt of all medications and supplies by verifying deliveries against purchase orders and resolving discrepancies as needed.
- Reconcile invoices and purchase orders and ensures appropriate documentation is maintained for all procurement activities.
- Serves as an operational lead for Drug Supply Chain Security Act (DSCSA) compliance within the central distribution center by ensuring appropriate product tracking traceability and documentation.
- Coordinates centralized drug recall management ensuring timely identification, removal documentation and communication of recalled products across all supported entities.
- Supports 340B program operations by adhering to defined purchasing practices and inventory segregation requirements ensuring compliance within established workflows.
- Performs other duties as assigned in support of pharmacy procurement operations and system priorities.
Minimal Qualifications
- Education: High School Diploma or GED required.
- Experience: 3-4 years Pharmacy Technician experience in hospital setting required, 5-7 years Pharmacy Buyer experience in hospital setting required, Demonstrated experience in inventory management system required, 340B Experience preferred.
- Licenses and Certifications: PHRMTECH-R - Registered Pharmacy Technician, Registered technician in Maryland and has achieved pharmacy technician certification through a nationally accredited certification examination (such as PTCB) required upon hire.
Hiring Range
This position has a hiring range of USD $25.86 - USD $46.12 /Hr.
