About the role
Assist Food Service Manager/Cook (Cook) in the daily preparation and service of meals to clients in a congregate setting and contribute to an efficient kitchen/food service operation.
Responsibilities
- Prepare and package meals for delivery to homebound clients.
- Wash and sanitize appliances, equipment, pots/pans, dinnerware, glassware, utensils and other items used in the preparation and service of meals, and return all clean items to their proper storage locations.
- Clean and sanitize kitchen and dining room areas, including furniture, equipment, floors and walls.
- Be familiar with and comply with the Aging and Disability Services Division (ADSD) Service Specifications and ADSD Operations Manual (PINS); U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) food preparation/handling guidelines; and all Department of Health regulations (sanitation and health) relative to a food establishment.
- Be knowledgeable in the safe and effective use of kitchen equipment and appliances.
- Unpack and stock food and kitchen supplies when orders arrive; maintain neat and organized food storage area(s); conduct regular inventory of food and supplies.
- Fill ice machine and water pitchers on a daily basis; fill condiment bins, napkin dispensers, salt and pepper shakers, as necessary.
- Disposition of leftover food in an appropriate manner.
- Maintain a clean dish/pot washing area and be responsible for the equipment used in these areas; maintain all dish/pot washing sinks at the correct levels of water/chemical solutions and perform regular chemical status checks.
- On a daily basis: Wash/sanitize all counter surfaces, exteriors of cabinets, refrigerators and food/beverage station in dining room; empty trash in kitchen and dining room; sweep and mop kitchen and food storeroom, including moving and cleaning underneath floor mats, counters, tables and other equipment; wash, dry, fold and put away, towels and other linens.
- Assume the duties and responsibilities of the Cook during his/her absences.
- May, on occasion, be required to deliver meals, commodity foods and other food items to homebound clients in the absence of the MOWs Driver.
- Maintain client confidentiality at all times.
- Maintain in-service training hours as required.
- Perform any other reasonable duties as may be assigned by supervisor(s).
Requirements
- Must be at least 18 years of age.
- High School Diploma or GED equivalent.
- Valid Nevada driver’s license with good driving record.
- Must be physically able to perform all duties, in a speedy and efficient manner, including lifting and carrying requirements, and able to endure standing and walking for long periods of time.
- Food preparation experience preferred but not essential if willing to undergo training.
- ServSafe Certified (or obtain/maintain certification) – National Restaurant Association.
- Able to follow written and oral directions.
- Concern for and knowledge of special sociological and psychological needs of elderly.
- Respectful and courteous to, and possess a positive working relationship with clients, other staff and the general public.
Qualifications
