About the role

The work involves responsibility for providing social work services for individuals, including children, families and/or caregivers to assist them with their economic, emotional, social and environmental difficulties by making the necessary service referrals to address the social problems identified throughout the course of a case. The position differs from Caseworker in that, through training and experience, the Senior Caseworker handles more complex problems and situations with less direct supervision, and may provide supervision over Caseworkers. The work is performed under the general supervision of a Case Supervisor-Grade B with extensive mandated training provided through the State and the agency. Supervision may be exercised over subordinate staff. The work requires contacts to be in the field visiting families in their homes and in other community settings. Does related work as required.

Schedule

Full-time, 40 hours per week.

Pay

$31.2705–39.5804 per hour (CSEA Union).

Requirements

• Possession of a valid New York State driver’s license appropriate to the vehicles operated; failure to maintain a NYS driver’s license including driving privileges throughout employment will result in disciplinary action or dismissal
• Degree must have been awarded by a college or university accredited by a regional, national, or specialized agency recognized by the U.S. Department of Education/U.S. Secretary of Education
• If degree was awarded by an educational institution outside the United States and its territories, independent verification of equivalency is required (list of acceptable companies available at http://www.cs.ny.gov/jobseeker/degrees.cfm)
• Pre-employment screenings required

Qualifications

Open Competitive:

• Bachelor’s degree or higher
• Two (2) years of experience in social casework with a public or private social agency

Promotional:

• Promotion is limited to employees holding a permanent position of Caseworker for two (2) years in the Cortland County Department of Social Services
