About the role
The role reports to the Head of Engineering North America and is assigned to develop large Capital (Capex) projects for the US and Canada region, with specific focus on feasibility and front-end-engineering design. The Engineering Manager manages the technical multi-disciplinary engineering aspects of a project with the following contributions:
WHAT YOU'LL ACCOMPLISH
- Create a safety culture of “Zero by Choice” by Ensuring Health, Safety and Environmental values, policies and standards are maintained and integrated into all engineering project activities.
- Provides project management and engineering services for the region’s cement operations (and other business units as needed) through feasibility studies & project development for large industrial capital projects (typically >10m USD per project e.g. material processing, alternative fuel, decarbonization, etc.).
- Led and interfaces with experienced & multi-disciplinary engineering firms, suppliers and operations to develop optimal projects in terms of design, layout, lean technical concepts, ease to construct, supporting and in line with operational performance and group standards.
- Create enterprise value through developing capex projects timely, at lowest costs, high technical and administrative quality in line with Amrize design criteria and Capex procedures.
- Plans and coordinates all engineering activities for a project with the business & group project.
- Manages and Engineering (PME) resources to pass through project investment gates (phase 1 & 2) to final investment decision.
- Proposes innovative technical concepts and applies innovative engineering approaches, solutions and tools, stay in touch with industry development trends & best practices.
- Collaborates with other functions e.g. procurement, strategy, operations, HS&E to deliver value to the business.
- Develop large capital projects through applying standard methods, tools and procedures, ensuring holistic development to deliver projects to the required investment decision gates on time and with no re-work
- Manage project budgets through feasibility study phases and deliver an executable project budget for project realization
- Leads multi-disciplinary engineering development with 3rd parties and ensures delivery of:
- Preparation of project basic engineering documentation (layout, mass flow, flow sheets, general arrangement drawings,)
- Preparation of all technical appendices to be attached to the call for tenders and contracts
- Technical clarifications to the bidders
- Technical evaluation of the offers
- Select suppliers and contractors from a technical/performance perspective
- Reviews of detailed engineering documents/drawings provided by the contractors
- Design safety, operability, maintainability and value challenge reviews with project stakeholders (OP).
- Project 'request for approval' documentation
- Organizes and conducts formal projects risk analysis with the Project Manager, Owner and Steering Committee
- Organizes technical support from Engineering Discipline Engineers and Support Department to site team during construction, commissioning and start-up as required. Calls for external expertise on specific subjects when required, aligns with internal and external subject matter experts as needed.
- Prepares the AAR process after the project implementation. Accountable for monitoring all technical exchanges of information with PM&E engineers and suppliers (notes and drawings, comments and validation).

WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR
- Education: Bachelor's degree
- Field of Study Preferred: manufacturing, production efficiency, or engineering
- Required Work Experience: Minimum 5-7 years’ experience in an industrial production setting Cement, Aggregates, Foundry/Furnace and or other heavy industrial experience would be a plus
- Required Technical Skills:
- Knowledge in cement plant design, engineering, commissioning and operation,
- Knowledge of engineering disciplines,
- Basic knowledge in construction.
- Strong knowledge in current engineering design standards and tools specific to the cement industry
- Strong knowledge of process and mass flow calculations as well as basic design principles used in the cement industry
- Familiar with and knowledgeable of the various process equipment, material handling equipment and logistic equipment used in the industry
- Basic knowledge in civil and electrical engineering and basic principles and practices
- Capacity to forecast, analyze and mitigate technical risks
- Travel Requirements: Travel required +/-30%, mainly in USA and Canada
