Job Responsibilities
- Support current and future manufacturing programs with filling, packing, cooling and warpage analysis utilizing Autodesk Moldflow software.
- Consults and collaborates with engineering, tooling and manufacturing personnel in the organization to optimize part design, tool design and processing windows of injection molded parts.
- Captures and develops the complete analysis process by determining appropriate techniques, formulating the analysis plan, gathering data relating to material properties, gating feasibility, cavitation and dimensional/cosmetic requirements of the part.
- Maintains Magna’s established internal standards for part mesh quality, gating and cooling system model quality, root cause analysis and results evaluation and reporting.
- Adopts the departmental initiatives for quality assurance/improvement and operational efficiency.
- Develops additional operational enhancements such as closed loop benchmarking.
- Effective trial participation to close the projects with productive correlation between CAE and trials.
- Proactive communications with customers to accommodate customer's voice upfront and through all projects.
- Collaborating with Product CAE for integrated product & tool development support.
- Developing ideas for operational automations adopting latest software and AI technologies and implementing the same effectively collaborating with appropriate IT teams.
- Completes tasks and resolution of issues to ensure compliance to program deliverables.
- Contributes to the development of project timing.
- Maintains a library of completed project reports and documentation.
- Able to perform root cause analysis and make recommendations to improve the dimensional stability and/or cosmetic appearance of injection molded parts.
- Develop and maintain professional working and business relationships with key customer engineering contacts.
- Aid program teams in developing CAE quotes, and prepare technical presentations, as required.
- Ensure that the divisions and program teams understand Moldflow analysis input requirements.
- Applies a general knowledge of CAE structural analysis and comprehends the effects of fiber orientation, residual stresses and weld lines on the structural integrity of a plastic part.
- Continues to pursue higher levels of training/certification in Autodesk Moldflow software.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree - Engineering, or Plastics required.
- 8 years of experience with manipulating Meshed Parts/Components.
- Strong CAE background using Hypermesh, Moldflow, or other pre-processing software.
- Strong Plastics background.
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel and Powerpoint for creating reports.
- Exposure to non-traditional molding processes such as compression molding, injection compression and thermoset processing.
- Experience with Plastic Injection molding part simulation and process optimization.
- Experience in managing Tooling programs.
- Associate, Professional or Expert Level Certification in Autodesk Moldflow.
- Experience with macros, automations and chatbots a plus.
- Ability to apply academic (e.g. part design optimization, tooling tolerances, material processing, DOE) and other engineering principles in the process simulation of automotive components.
- Strong organizational skills and the ability to successfully coordinate and complete multiple tasks within and across departments to meet established and changing deadlines.
- Ability to communicate effectively with all staff levels, both verbally and in writing.
- Ability to work independently and take on additional responsibilities over time.
