About the role
The Senior CAD Drafter position at DOWL is a key role in our Civil Engineering and related services division. This position requires a minimum of 15 years of experience, with preference given to candidates with an advanced degree.
Responsibilities
- Perform advanced drafting services using CAD software and Civil3D for a variety of complex civil engineering, permitting, and survey related tasks.
- Exercise a strong work ethic, strong organizational skills, and excellent judgment.
- Mentor other drafter with less experience, demonstrating a highly advanced level of drafting proficiency.
- Work well with others, provide constructive feedback, absorb and apply constructive criticism, and seek guidance from more experienced members of the team as necessary.
- Lead the production of and provide quality control for plan sheets, exhibits, back checks, and submittal plan sets.
- Compile, update, and review milestone submittal plan sets, and provide senior review of submittal plans.
- Develop and maintain budgets and schedules for complex tasks, breaking down projects into logical tasks.
- Engage as an industry expert on complex projects and pursue, leading the technical aspects of project interviews.
- Provide design guidance to designers, oversee team operations, organize workflow, and recruit and hire new employees.
- Communicate information from leadership to employees and vice versa, set goals for performance and deadlines, and provide constructive and timely performance evaluations.
- Handle discipline and termination of employees as needed and in accordance with company policy.
Requirements
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel), Bluebeam Revu, and Civil3D or similar CAD platforms.
- Strong understanding of scopes, schedules, and budgets, with the ability to predict and deliver individual tasks within a set level of effort.
- Expertly apply drafting standards, including drafting fundamentals, CAD standards for DOWL and clients, and accurately interpreting redlines and updating CAD drawings and details.
- Ability to communicate effectively with clients on large/complex projects, engage as an industry expert, and lead technical client project meetings.

- Associate's Degree preferred.
