Senior Buyer (Procurement Process & Digital Transformation)
About the role
The Senior Buyer is responsible for transforming the purchasing organization towards automation and digital workflows. This role involves driving the adoption of supplier portals, electronic acknowledgments, automated order confirmations, and self-service supplier collaboration. The goal is to eliminate manual email-based purchasing activities, increase efficiency, scalability, and supplier collaboration.
Responsibilities
- Lead the transformation of purchasing processes toward automation and digital workflows.
- Drive adoption of supplier portals, electronic acknowledgments, automated order confirmations, and self-service supplier collaboration.
- Partner with IT and ERP teams to identify, design, test, and implement procurement system enhancements.
- Eliminate manual email-based purchasing activities by standardizing and automating transactional processes.
- Develop exception management processes, allowing buyers to focus on supply risks, shortages, and strategic issues rather than routine transactions.
- Analyze procurement workflows and identify opportunities for efficiency, simplification, and cost reduction.
- Create KPIs and dashboards to monitor supplier responsiveness, automation rates, purchase order cycle times, and process compliance.
- Train and coach purchasing team members on new digital tools and best practices.
- Lead continuous improvement initiatives using Lean principles and process mapping.
- Work cross-functionally with Planning, Operations, IT, Finance, and suppliers to improve procurement effectiveness.
- Interact with Commodity Management team that supports sourcing activities, supplier negotiations, and issue resolution as required.
Requirements
- Strong understanding of procurement and supply chain processes.
- Experience with ERP systems (Infor LN, SAP, Oracle, Microsoft Dynamics, or similar).
- Experience implementing supplier portals or supplier collaboration platforms.
- Knowledge of workflow automation and digital procurement tools.
- Strong analytical and data management skills.
- Advanced Excel and reporting capabilities; Power BI or similar analytics tools preferred.
- Understanding of EDI/API integrations and electronic supplier communication is highly desirable.
Qualifications
- 5+ years in Purchasing, Supply Chain, or Procurement.
- Experience leading procurement transformation or automation initiatives.
- Led Lean, Six Sigma, or continuous improvement experience preferred.
- Experience working closely with IT teams on system implementation projects.
- Manufacturing environment experience preferred.
