Senior Business Development Representative - Medical Professional Liability

About the role

ProAssurance is seeking a Senior Business Development Representative to support its medical professional liability line of business. This position is remote, preferably based in California.

Responsibilities

  • 30% Broker Team Relations and Education
    • Build strong relationships with account and production teams of brokers representing 80% of the regional revenue
    • Provide established tools and educational content to appropriate account and production teams
    • Develop and manage growth plans with appointed brokers as instructed
  • 25% Company presentation and promotion
    • Represent company culture, values and mission in all public settings
    • Meet with brokers on regular basis
  • 15% Broker Relations
    • Build strong relationships with leadership of tier 2 appointed brokers
    • Provide established tools and educational content to appropriate account and production teams
    • Act as guide to ProAssurance resources for appropriate account and production teams
    • Grow books associated with assigned brokers
    • Make presentations in conjunction with production team to brokers and agents
  • 10% Cross department collaboration
    • Create trustworthy and mutually beneficial working relationships with regional teams in other departments
  • 5% Market analysis
    • Using established formats, gather market intelligence from brokers and report to BD Services team
    • Review appropriate insurance and medical industry information resources and report to BD Services team
    • Analyze market potential of regions, products or healthcare market segments as instructed
  • 5% Financial management
    • Work with Regional Director to establish budgetary items related to broker relations, sponsorships, events and other items as appropriate
    • Manage to the established budget with the goal of meeting or beating budget using established financial reports
  • Perform special projects as directed by management

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in sales, RMI, or other business related field required or eight years’ relevant experience in lieu of degree
  • A minimum five years of casualty insurance experience in business development, underwriting, or claims in the medical professional liability sector
  • Knowledge of medical professional liability insurance products, distribution channels, industry, and environment
  • Critical thinker
  • Strategic orientation and strong organizational skills
  • Negotiation and problem-solving skills
  • Proven ability to develop strong relationships and influence management skills
  • Good presentation, verbal, and writing skills
  • Ability to facilitate group meetings
  • Ability to work independently with little direct oversight
  • Adaptable and comfortable with change
  • Insurance agent’s license in their respective state(s) if required
  • Valid driver’s license
  • Travel up to 50% of the time

Pay

The salary range for this position is $95,260.00 - $157,195.00. Most candidates will start in the bottom half of the range. Factors that may be used to determine your actual salary include your specific skills, how many years of experience you have, your location and comparison to other team members already in this role.

Schedule

This position is remote, preferably based in California.
