Responsibilities
- Work with US East team on a day-to-day basis to grow and lead a team based in the New York City office, as Project Principal and Project Manager, to efficiently and reliably source and deliver services on projects within scope and budget.
- Manage overall project performance.
- With Regional Director and other leadership colleagues to source assistance from other offices and on decisions regarding timing of adding and selecting new resources.
- Aid our clients and other project team members including other consultants and contractors to better ensure the successful design and implementation of effective building enclosures.
- Review design drawings, specifications and construction related submittals based on building science fundamentals and project performance criteria to provide useful input.
- Evaluate contractor performance and assist them to ensure project deliverables and quality standards are achieved.
- Maintain regular communication and coordination with clients and colleagues regarding project status, site issues, project quality, and collaboration efforts to resolve issues as required.
- Lead investigations and condition assessments to determine repair and renewal.
- Cookordination with project teams and firm resources to prepare construction-related drawings, specifications, and reports for existing building.
- Contribute to company knowledge management and practice.
- Contribute to the firm's reputation in the market and help build client base through a range of appropriate business development.
- Develop our people to ensure their and RDH’s growth.
Qualifications
- The Senior Building Science Specialist is a technical leader within RDH.
- The qualifications include the following:
- Education: Bachelor’s Degree in engineering or Applied Science is required. Master’s degree in engineering or Applied Science, specializing in building science is preferred.
- Experience: Minimum of 10 years of experience in building science and engineering, with knowledge of architecture and construction with a focus on building enclosure systems. Field experience and construction activity review experience.
- Demonstrated business development experience. Client facing experience particularly with developers, architects, building owners and other project team members. Proven success leading new construction projects involving large and small buildings.
- Professional Registration: Designation as a Professional Engineer (P.E.) required.

Being an RDH Principal
- The RDH Principal designation provides recognition, internally and externally, that an individual can be relied upon to represent RDH in a more public context and make decisions on behalf of RDH.
- In addition, Principals have a role in improving or advancing the firm. This can include improving our product, improving staff capability, improving internal processes, effective project management such that a project or client base significantly grows, being a key client manager, developing new business areas in keeping with our business objectives, etc.
- A Principal must contribute in key leadership or specialist roles and must demonstrate many, if not most, of the following attributes:
- People/Staff Leadership: Lead by example, aligning with RDH’s core values and embracing policies, procedures, and culture including those they may find personally challenging. Active involvement in the training, development and mentoring of staff. Oversee staff and their development within RDH’s Group Leader structure. - Project Leadership: Lead and oversee RDH projects as Project Principal.
- Technical Leadership: Possesses superior technical knowledge in some facet of Building Science or supporting field that is recognized both internally and externally including publishing or presenting externally, and/or participate in industry committees to raise RDH’s profile within the industry. Provide significant technical guidance to RDH’s standards and approach to technical work and support RDH’s Quality Policies.
- Service Area Leadership: Lead an RDH service or service area corporately or regionally including leading technical, business development, and client interface. Take ownership of and continually improve on RDH’s playbooks and ways of working.
- Business Development Leadership: Actively pursue and develop project work through existing client relationships. Develop new client relationships within and beyond our current geographic reach. Develop new services that support RDH’s Mission and Vision.
- Operations, Business and Strategic Leadership: Participate as a member of one or more of the corporate, regional, or service area committees. Lead an aspect of operations or other facet of business at RDH.
