Senior Building Enclosure Consultant

Responsibilities

  • Expand building enclosure services by leveraging your existing network and fostering new client relationships.
  • Maintain client relationships and support business development effort in the region.
  • Lead business development efforts, including identifying opportunities, preparing proposals, and presenting to prospective clients.
  • Act as a seller-doer by balancing technical project work with client engagement and strategic growth initiatives.
  • Evaluate building enclosure systems (e.g. cladding, fenestration, curtain wall, air barrier systems, roofing, waterproofing).
  • Perform forensic assessments of building enclosure failures, including field diagnostic, testing and reporting.
  • Prepare project deliverables such as proposals, reports, technical specifications and repair or replacement details.
  • Oversee various aspects of projects, such as project schedule, deliverables, fees, and invoicing, and provide direct assistance to ensure timely project execution.
  • Productively interact with client representatives and SME subcontractors.
  • Collaborate with group to develop practical recommendations for the client.
  • Help to enhance the visibility of SME’s expertise.

Requirements

  • Minimum 10 years of experience in the design, construction, investigation, and development of technical reports and repair project documents of various new and existing building enclosure systems.
  • Registered Architect (RA), Professional Engineer (PE), IIBEC Registered Building Enclosure Consultant (RBEC), or Certified Building Enclosure Commissioning Provider (CxA + BE and/or BECxP).
  • Strong understanding of construction materials, assemblies, building codes, standards, and industry guidelines (IBC, ASHRAE, ASTM, AAMA, NRCA, etc.).
  • Technical experience in detailing of various building enclosure elements as well as detailing the interfaces between different building enclosure systems such as: facades, curtain walls, fenestrations, glazing systems, sealants and coatings, insulation, air barriers, weather barriers, cladding assemblies, low-slope roofing, steep-slope roofing, below-grade waterproofing, and plaza/terrace waterproofing, etc.
  • Excellent technical, written, graphical and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work in an efficient and organized manner independently and with a team, as well as the desire for continuous learning.
  • Ability to learn new concepts and adapt to challenges.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to safely use and operate ladders and stairs, scaffolds, articulating lifts, swing-stages and other equipment.
  • Ability to travel to project sites and other SME offices.
  • Ability to lift 50+ pounds, work from heights, work in tight spaces, and work in inclement weather.
  • Ability to work overtime, including weekends on an as-needed basis.
  • Medically fit to use personal protective equipment.
  • Ability to drive and safely operate a motor vehicle.

Preferred Skills And Experience

  • Previous consulting firm experience, ideally in building enclosure or building science–focused practice.
  • Extensive experience with building science and performance evaluation, including condensation control, ventilation strategies, thermal and hygrothermal analysis, and moisture vapor transmission.
