About the Role

A Barnes & Noble bookstore is a gathering place for readers and the community. As a Senior Bookseller, you are an integral member of the bookselling team at the heart of our stores. You welcome customers in a cheerful and helpful way by saying hello, answering questions, and consistently going out of your way to connect readers with the right titles and products. You are a go-to resource for other booksellers when they need help and guidance. You teach newer booksellers best practices and provide informal feedback to peers when opportunities arise. You are also essential in maintaining the attractive presentation of the store and ensuring its efficient operation.

Responsibilities

  • Master operational competencies, including using varied technology (registers, computers, tablets, programs) comfortably and efficiently while troubleshooting routine issues.
  • Proactively refresh book presentations and grow merchandising skills while maintaining store cleanliness.
  • Maintain and actively refresh the presentation in gifting, toys, and other product categories, and assist others in doing the same.
  • Operate a register competently to serve customers quickly and reliably while helping other booksellers achieve the same.
  • Support the receiving and unpacking of deliveries, ensuring efficient and accurate shelving.
  • Locate books and other products with ease and accuracy, using tools like BookMaster to identify alternatives when items are out of stock.
  • Support the café team willingly and effectively when needed.
  • Understand loss prevention procedures, use de-escalation techniques, and identify theft or problematic behavior in the store.
  • Engage customers with informed book recommendations across fiction, nonfiction, and children’s categories.
  • Maintain sections and present books in an attractive manner.
  • Promote key sales objectives such as Monthly Picks, Book of the Year, Membership, and pre-orders.
  • Use expertise in ETG, SHC, Media, and Newsstand to manage sections, backstock, and assist customers.
  • Comply with all company policies and procedures.

Physical Requirements

This role requires physical activity, including prolonged standing, repetitive bending, lifting, and extensive walking. You may also be asked to work in other stores within the cluster if needed.
