Senior Benefits Analyst

About the role

As a Senior Benefits Analyst, Horizontal Support, you will independently manage complex projects, analyze data, and assess program performance to identify trends, efficiencies, and opportunities that elevate the associate experience. You will apply industry best practices and emerging technologies—including AI-enabled insights—to recommend process enhancements, support program owners and vendors, and strengthen governance across the Benefits portfolio. Operating with minimal oversight, you will build business cases, develop reporting, and uncover insights that drive continuous improvement while ensuring people-first program delivery.

This role serves as a Senior Analyst on the Benefits team, providing cross-functional support across Health, Wellness, and Financial benefit programs. You will evaluate program interdependencies, use advanced analytical methods to uncover insights, build strong partnerships with program owners and vendors, and help shape future-focused Benefits initiatives. You will also guide work performed by supporting analysts and influence change through improved processes, technology usage, and program recommendations.

Responsibilities

• Lead cross-functional Benefits projects focused on operational efficiency, data-driven decisions, and continuous improvement.
• Develop KPIs and reporting to analyze enrollment, utilization, and associate behaviors; convert insights into program recommendations.
• Identify operational gaps and propose scalable process improvements across the Benefits portfolio.
• Partner with program owners and vendors to support governance and compliance, develop business cases, and ensure high-quality delivery.
• Apply analytical and technological approaches to enhance accuracy, streamline workflows, and improve associate engagement.
• Support the resolution of complex associate issues and contribute to clear, effective communications and education for assigned benefit programs.
• Build strong relationships across Benefits, Payroll, Legal, Finance or Treasury, Technology, HR operations, and vendor partners to align priorities and support execution.
• Review vendor performance against contractual requirements, service expectations, and performance guarantees, escalating issues and driving corrective action as needed.
• Operate with minimal oversight, managing multiple priorities and completing additional duties as assigned.

Requirements

• 3+ years of experience in benefits administration, benefits analysis, data analytics, project management, or related work supporting complex programs, with experience leading cross-functional initiatives.
• Proven ability to manage projects independently, analyze complex data sets, and translate insights into strategic recommendations.
• Strong customer-service mindset, delivering value-added recommendations and honoring commitments.
• Uses advanced analytical and quantitative methods to evaluate programs, policies, and processes and identify improvements.
• Demonstrates strong planning, execution, and organizational skills, effectively managing multiple priorities in fast-paced environments.
• Communicates clearly through verbal, written, and visual formats, promoting ideas confidently while maintaining confidentiality.
• Builds effective working relationships, contributes to team goals, mentors others, and leverages Microsoft Office Suite.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree or certifications such as CEBS, PPMC, or CAP (preferred).

Schedule

This role will be based out of the CarMax Home Office in Richmond, VA and associates will work onsite 4 days per week.

Applicants must be currently authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis. Sponsorship will not be considered for this specific role.

Pay

The annual salary for this position is $82,200.00 - $123,300.00. May be eligible for bonus and equity.

Benefits

Except as otherwise required by state law, CarMax associates are entitled to the following paid sick, vacation, and holiday time.

• Full-time hourly or commission/incentive eligible associates: Up to 48 hours of sick time per year accrued on a per pay period basis; between 80 hours and 200 hours per year of vacation time after a 90-day waiting period depending on years of continuous service; 8 hours of pay for each of 6 paid scheduled holidays per year plus 1 floating holiday. Holiday premium pay if required to work on a scheduled holiday.
• Full-time salaried associates: Paid time away with no specified limit as needed for sick, vacation, bereavement, jury duty, holidays, floating holiday, etc., subject to manager approval.
