Engineer, Developer Platform

Epic Games is seeking an experienced senior programmer to join our developer platform team. The ideal candidate will collaborate with mixed-discipline teams across Epic and multiple time zones to steer the architecture of Horde, our in-house platform. Horde powers CI/CD, remote execution, build health, storage, and other services crucial for developer iteration and workflows.

  • Own parts of the Horde codebase
  • Implement new features, fix bugs, and support internal teams and Unreal licensees
  • Develop and extend the Horde plugin architecture across Build, Compute, Storage, Secrets, and Tools

What You'll Do

  • Collaborate with mixed-discipline teams across Epic and multiple time zones
  • Ensure new features are scalable, maintainable, and fit the overall design
  • Own parts of the Horde codebase
  • Implement new features, fix bugs, and support internal teams and Unreal licensees
  • Develop and extend the Horde plugin architecture across Build, Compute, Storage, Secrets, and Tools

What We're Looking For

  • 6+ years of professional software engineering experience designing distributed systems that handle scheduling, queueing, storage, and failure recovery at high volume
  • Experience building software behind CI/CD or developer infrastructure (job schedulers, remote execution, or artifact storage services)
  • Expert knowledge of C# and .NET, including multithreading and memory management
  • Strong backend and server architecture experience, including data modeling, API design, and scaling strategies
  • Experience with cloud solutions such as AWS or Azure
  • Strong communication skills across technical and non-technical audiences
  • Live service experience is a plus
  • Familiarity with ASP.NET, gRPC, MongoDB, or Redis (or equivalent) is a plus
  • Experience developing web frontends is a plus
  • Experience leveraging agentic engineering tools in your workflows is a plus
