Senior Backend Engineer, Defensive Agent

About the role

For our client, we are seeking a Senior Backend Engineer, Defensive Agent to join the team of a leader in the Telecommunications & Hardware space. This role will focus on building the backend systems that power resilient agent-based workflows and secure integrations in a technically sophisticated environment. You will collaborate closely with engineering and platform stakeholders to design durable execution paths, enforce validation, and support safe operational changes. The position also emphasizes observability, data flow, and multi-tenant controls to help ensure reliable, secure agent operations at scale.

Location: Remote - US based candidates only, no visa sponsorship available

Responsibilities

• Build and own the agent execution runtime for durable, resumable workflows.
• Design and implement the tool layer enabling agent interactions with server-side validation.
• Create a connector framework for integrating third-party security tools.
• Develop a robust safe-change pipeline for agent actions including simulations and rollbacks.
• Extend tenant isolation models for secure agent operations with strict controls.
• Develop ETL processes and GraphQL features to manage data flow for agents.
• Instrument all components with distributed tracing for detailed observability.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or a related field.
• 7+ years of software engineering experience with modern programming languages.
• Experience with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP) and containerization (Docker, Kubernetes).
• Expertise in SQL for database interactions.
• Proven history of designing and operating production-level distributed systems.

Pay

$199,000 – $235,000 annually
