Senior Backend Engineer

About the role

We’re seeking a Senior Software Engineer to help drive the evolution of our cloud-native platform and microservices architecture. This role involves working on highly scalable systems, modernizing infrastructure, and contributing to a growing engineering organization that supports mission-critical business operations across North America.

Responsibilities

• Design, build, and maintain scalable cloud-native applications using Java and Spring Boot
• Help drive the transition to a resilient, always-on microservices architecture
• Deploy and manage applications within Kubernetes/OpenShift environments
• Provide technical leadership and mentorship to other engineers
• Improve system monitoring, observability, and performance across distributed services
• Contribute to modern CI/CD and GitOps deployment practices
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to deliver high-impact software solutions

Requirements

• 10+ years of professional software engineering experience
• Strong expertise in Java development and SQL
• 5+ years building and supporting microservices using Spring Framework / Spring Boot
• Hands-on experience with Kubernetes platforms, ideally OpenShift
• Experience building and scaling distributed, cloud-native applications
• Strong understanding of software architecture, system design, and best engineering practices
• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field

Nice to Have

• Experience with observability and monitoring tools such as Grafana, Elastic Stack, or Dynatrace
• Exposure to GitOps practices and CI/CD tools such as Argo CD or Tekton
• Experience supporting large-scale, high-availability systems
