About the role

We are seeking a Senior Backend Engineer with deep expertise in distributed systems to design, build, and operate large-scale, high-throughput backend services that power mission-critical workloads. In this role you will architect the core platforms that other engineering teams build on, focusing on scalability, reliability, performance, and clean engineering practices.

Responsibilities

  • Combine strong fundamentals in computer science with practical, battle-tested experience operating distributed systems at scale
  • Navigate the trade-offs between consistency, availability, and latency
  • Lead complex technical initiatives across multiple teams
  • Experience leading complex technical initiatives across multiple teams
  • Experience with Kubernetes-based platforms in production
  • Exposure to service-mesh technologies (Istio, Linkerd)
  • Familiarity with chaos engineering practices and tools
  • Open-source contributions to relevant distributed systems projects

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science or a related discipline
  • Six or more years of professional backend engineering experience, with significant time on distributed systems
  • Strong programming skills in Java, Go, Scala, or similar
  • Deep understanding of distributed systems concepts, including consensus, replication, and CAP trade-offs
  • Hands-on experience with high-throughput message systems such as Kafka
  • Hands-on experience with major cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, or GCP)
  • Strong debugging and root-cause analysis skills
  • Excellent communication, documentation, and mentorship skills

Qualifications
