Senior Back-End Software Engineer (up to $225k)

About the role

This position is with a trusted partner of Dex, building an AI operating system for the blue‑collar parts and equipment industries (automotive spare‑parts distributors, OEMs, salvage yards). The company is backed by leading investors, growing rapidly, and tackling a hard problem at the intersection of AI and legacy systems. As the first U.S. tech hire, you will work directly with the founders to build the core system end‑to‑end, owning the entire backend from data ingestion and orchestration to API development, and setting architectural standards and engineering practices from day one.

Responsibilities

• Design, build, and own end‑to‑end data pipelines: ingestion, cleaning, transformation, ensuring reliable data movement.
• Develop robust orchestration workflows (Airflow‑style DAGs) to manage complex data flows across systems.
• Integrate diverse, messy customer data sources—including on‑prem databases, CSVs, SFTP, and legacy ERPs—into structured, queryable formats.
• Build the APIs and backend services that power LLM‑driven insights and decision‑making for non‑technical users.
• Define and implement standards for data quality, schema evolution, observability, CI/CD, and deployment automation.

Requirements

• 5+ years of experience building and shipping backend services, preferably in an early‑stage or fast‑paced environment.
• Deep expertise in Python for APIs and services, with proven experience designing workflows, scheduling jobs, and operating orchestration tools.
• Demonstrated ownership of end‑to‑end data pipelines, ensuring reliable and observable data movement.
• A driven builder who thrives on startup intensity, with a strong bias for shipping and foundational impact.
• Backend development as primary strength; not seeking a primarily frontend role.
