About the role
We are seeking a full-time Senior Aviation Systems Engineer for our Salem, OR location. In this role, you will lead the successful conception, development, and application of sophisticated avionics systems by creating, identifying, documenting, and coordinating customer and regulatory system requirements and designing scalable systems for multiple products or product lines.
Responsibilities
- Serve in a technical leadership capacity to identify, document, and coordinate technical aspects of new interfaces or functionality to support market-driven or specific customer requirements for scalable implementations across multiple products or product lines
- Create and review system requirements, supporting rationale, system architectures, and technical description documentation for new products or functions
- Lead coordination efforts for collaborative requirement allocation and verification planning activities
- Perform complete trade-off analysis for new products and functions, following requirements standards and best practices
- Provide technical input to product concepts and development plans, contributing to the technical definition of new product or feature ideas for discussion in periodic roadmap reviews with leadership
- Perform technical market research and analysis in support of product definition and business development initiatives
- Generate, execute, and review bench test plans and procedures for new products or features to validate system functionality against customer expectations or verify system requirements; document testing performed with clear details about observed issues and feedback to development teams
- Troubleshoot complex bench, simulator, and field issues, identifying technical root causes and suggesting corrective actions using sound problem-solving techniques
- Establish program or project-specific execution plans for system-level processes and roadmap initiatives, including initial discussions with customers
- Analyze system design, performance, safety, and security for new products or features in accordance with applicable processes and procedures
- Improve or create system-level processes, best practices, and tools for systems engineering, development assurance, or cybersecurity in accordance with regulations and industry standards
- Provide reliable solutions to a wide range of difficult problems using sound problem-solving techniques
- Mentor and provide guidance to less experienced Aviation Systems Engineers (levels 1 & 2)
- Work collaboratively and professionally in a team environment to achieve goals
- Apply a sense of urgency, commitment, and focus on the right priorities in developing solutions in a timely fashion

Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree in Aerospace Engineering, Electrical/Computer Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Systems Engineering, Computer Science, or another related technical field and a minimum of 5 years of relevant experience or an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience
- Excellent academics (cumulative GPA greater than or equal to 3.0 as a general rule)
- Demonstrated expert knowledge and troubleshooting skills in one or more of the following technical areas: Systems Integration, System Safety, System Requirements, System Security
- Team-oriented with a positive attitude and ability to work well with others
- Strong and effective verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous systems design or integration experience with consumer or aviation products
- Demonstrated passion for and involvement in the aviation community
- Operational knowledge of Garmin or competitive avionics
- A pilot’s license and/or a passion for aviation
