About the role
JANUS Research Group is seeking a Senior Aviation Military Analyst with extensive expertise in Army Aviation utility helicopter operations, capability development, and modernization.
Responsibilities
- Serve as a senior subject matter expert on Army Aviation utility helicopter operations and capabilities.
- Provide detailed operational analysis and assessments of the tactical employment of Army Aviation utility aircraft.
- Evaluate current and future utility aviation capabilities, identify operational gaps, and recommend solutions to support modernization efforts.
- Apply operational experience to assess aircraft performance, mission requirements, limitations, and employment considerations.
- Support Army Aviation capability development, combat developments, and modernization initiatives.
- Analyze utility aviation formations, force structures, training requirements, and operational impacts associated with capability changes.
- Conduct aviation studies, operational assessments, technology evaluations, and capability analyses.
- Support the development of white papers, concept papers, requirements documents, operational views, and capability assessments.
- Plan, coordinate, and facilitate Joint Working Groups, Integrated Product Teams (IPTs), and aviation modernization forums.
- Provide technical leadership and mentorship to multidisciplinary teams supporting aviation capability development.
- Support operational testing and evaluation activities involving Army Aviation utility helicopter systems and technologies.
- Develop executive-level briefings and recommendations for senior military and government stakeholders.
- Review and edit technical products to ensure graduate-level quality prior to government delivery.
- Independently produce high-quality analytical products based on broad senior-level guidance.
Qualifications
- Minimum 15 years of Army Aviation flight and combat operations experience.
- Rated Army Aviator with extensive utility helicopter operational experience.
- Senior or Master Rated Army Aviator qualification required.
- Experience as a Standardization Instructor Pilot (SIP), or Instructor Pilot (IP) in Army Aviation utility helicopter formations.
- Experience operating current Army tactical utility aircraft fielded to Army Aviation units.
- Completion of military or civilian professional military education equivalent to Command and General Staff College (CGSC), Intermediate Level Education (ILE), Warrant Officer Senior Staff Course, or equivalent staff development program.
- Demonstrated ability to provide detailed tactical and operational analysis of Army Aviation utility helicopter employment.
- Minimum 5 years of experience supporting Combat developments, Capability management, Force modernization, and Requirements development.
- Experience producing graduate-level written products, including white papers, concept papers, requirements documents, operational views, and capability assessments.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Active Secret Security Clearance.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience supporting Army Aviation attack, reconnaissance, or assault operations planning, training, and execution within organizations of 400+ to 2,863+ personnel.
- Prior tactical operational leadership experience managing organizations of 400+ personnel.
- Experience as a Maintenance Test Pilot (MTP), or Maintenance Test Pilot Examiner (MTPE) in Army Aviation utility aircraft.
- Experience planning, executing, and facilitating Joint Working Groups.
- Experience serving as a Team Lead conducting aviation studies, operational test events, capability assessments, technology evaluations.
- Experience leading a team that authored a Joint Requirements Oversight Council (JROC)-approved Joint Capabilities Integration and Development System (JCIDS) document.
- Participation as a direct team member in an Army Aviation Operations Capability-Based Assessment (CBA).
- Knowledge of the Army’s light utility helicopter fleet, mission sets, capabilities, and operational limitations.
- Utility aviation combat operations experience.
