Senior Automation Engineer

About the role
We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Sr. Automation Engineer (Laboratory) with expertise in Next-Generation Sequencing (NGS) to join our dynamic team. In this role, you will play a critical part in developing, optimizing, and automating workflows to advance our NGS capabilities. You will work closely with cross-functional groups to enhance the efficiency, scalability, and precision of our sequencing technologies.
Responsibilities
- Design, develop, and implement automated liquid handling systems for NGS assays
- Translate and optimize manual processes onto automated platforms
- Provide training and technical support for operations during deployment of new methods
- Author and update SOPs (Standard Operating Procedures) and quality documentation to ensure compliance with industry standards
- Maintain and manage instrument configuration documentation (IQ/OQ/PQ and SOP)
- Complete quality documentation reports and ensure all regulatory and internal standards are met
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Biotechnology, Biology or related field
- 3+ years of laboratory automation engineering experience
- Strong experience in programming and developing automated systems for assay development on Hamilton using Venus Software; experience with scheduling software
- Familiarity with lab automation tools, instrumentation (e.g., Agilent, Bio-Rad, Thermofisher), and software (e.g., BIOlims)
- Familiarity with barcoding, labware management, and traceability tools
- Experience in process development and scaling in a laboratory and/or manufacturing environment
- Ability to work cross-functionally with IT, Facilities, and Operations teams
- Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting skills
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to document technical processes clearly
- Experience with technology transfer and vendor management
- Strong knowledge of regulatory compliance and configuration management
