POSITION OVERVIEW

PMY is seeking an experienced Senior Sound Systems Consultant to lead the design and delivery of professional audio systems for major sports stadiums, arenas, entertainment venues, and other large-format facilities.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Lead the design of sound reinforcement, public address, distributed audio, paging, and related systems for stadiums, arenas, sports facilities, performing arts venues, and other large assembly spaces.
  • Meet with clients, operators, architects, and project stakeholders to define system requirements, performance objectives, and operational priorities.
  • Develop sound system architectures addressing loudspeakers, amplification, digital signal processing, mixing and control, audio networking, monitoring, cabling, and redundancy.
  • Create three-dimensional electro-acoustic models using EASE or comparable software to evaluate coverage, sound pressure levels, intelligibility, frequency response, and system performance.
  • Evaluate loudspeakers and other products from multiple manufacturers to identify the most appropriate solution for each project.
  • Prepare and oversee the production of construction drawings, specifications, signal-flow diagrams, equipment schedules, rack elevations, mounting details, and other bid documents.
  • Cook up sound system designs with architecture, acoustics, structure, electrical, mechanical, technology, broadcast, video, and other project disciplines.
  • Lead client meetings, technical presentations, design reviews, and coordination workshops.
  • Review contractor submittals, shop drawings, substitution requests, RFIs, and value-engineering proposals.
  • Conduct site observations and support the resolution of installation and coordination issues during construction.
  • Lead or participate in system testing, adjustment, commissioning, and tuning using professional measurement equipment and software.
  • Verify system coverage, intelligibility, frequency response, levels, alignment, control functionality, and compliance with the design requirements.
  • Provide technical leadership, quality review, and mentorship to junior and intermediate designers.
  • Support proposals, project pursuits, scope development, fee estimates, and client relationship activities.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering, acoustics, audio engineering, architectural engineering, music technology, or a related discipline, or equivalent professional experience preferred.
  • Ten or more years of progressively responsible experience designing professional sound systems.
  • Demonstrated experience with stadiums, arenas, large sports facilities, performing arts centers, convention facilities, or comparable large-format venues.
  • Experience leading sound system projects through design, documentation, construction administration, testing, and commissioning.
  • Advanced understanding of wavelength behavior, reflection, diffraction, absorption, propagation, inverse square law, electrical fundamentals (voltage, current, power, impedance), thermal considerations, electro-acoustics, loudspeaker directivity, speech intelligibility, sound system alignment, digital signal processing, gain structure, and system optimization.
  • Strong working knowledge of CSI documentation standards and architectural project phases, including narratives, specifications, contract drawings, RFIs, submittals, and field observation reporting.
  • Strong understanding of audio system installation practices, construction sequencing, and coordination with contractors, integrators, and commissioning teams.
  • Proficiency with EASE or another recognized electro-acoustic modeling platform.
  • Experience with professional measurement and tuning tools such as Smaart, Systune, or comparable platforms.
  • Strong knowledge of loudspeakers, amplifiers, digital signal processors, mixing systems, microphones, audio networking, system control, and monitoring technologies.
  • Experience preparing coordinated construction drawings and technical specifications.
  • Proficiency with AutoCAD, Bluebeam, Microsoft Word, and Microsoft Excel.
  • Experience working on professional or major collegiate sports facilities preferred.
  • Experience designing systems for sports presentation, concerts, touring productions, ceremonies, and multipurpose venue configurations preferred.
  • Experience coordinating audio systems with scoreboards, video displays, broadcast systems, production control rooms, and event presentation technologies preferred.
  • Working knowledge of Revit and BIM-based design coordination.
  • Familiarity with Dante, AES67, AV-over-IP, and other current audio networking protocols.
  • Strong written, verbal, presentation, and client-management skills.
  • Ability to independently manage multiple complex assignments and travel as project needs require.
