Senior Associate, Software Engineering

L3Harris Technologies is seeking a hands-on Senior Specialist, Software Engineering to support the development of Ground Segment Software in Palm Bay, Florida. This role supports customer-funded programs within our Surveillance Systems division.

About the role

In this position, you will design, develop, integrate, and test deliverable software code. You will participate in peer reviews, collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, and generate documentation. The ideal candidate has experience in space, aerospace, defense, or similarly complex mission-critical environments.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and maintain advanced software applications for Satellite Ground Systems in collaboration with systems engineers, hardware designers, and other software engineers.
• Work with cross-functional engineering teams to develop and evaluate internal/external interfaces between software and operational performance requirements.
• Support all phases of the software development life cycle, including requirements analysis, design, implementation, integration, and test.
• Develop software test procedures, programs, and related documentation.
• Utilize modeling tools and equipment to establish operating data, conduct experimental tests, and evaluate results.
• Participate in peer reviews, identify, track, and repair defects.
• Utilize Object-Oriented Programming (OOP) languages such as C++, C#, and Java.

Requirements

• Experience with Linux environments, including scripting, configuration, and software deployment.
• At least 4 years of experience with development in Java.
• Bachelor’s Degree and minimum 6 years of prior relevant experience, or a Graduate Degree and a minimum of 4 years of prior related experience. In lieu of a degree, a minimum of 10 years of prior related experience is required.
• Active TS/SCI Clearance.
• Ability to secure and maintain Special Access Program (SAP) access as required.

Preferred Skills

• Experience in Ground Segment Software Development within the Space Domain.
• Experience using AI-assisted and agentic software development tools (e.g., GitHub Copilot, OpenAI Codex, Claude Code) to improve software design, implementation, debugging, testing, code review, and engineering productivity.
• Familiarity with agentic AI concepts and AI-enabled development workflows, including prompt/context engineering, tool integration (e.g., APIs or MCP), development of reusable agents or skills, and validation of AI-generated software artifacts.
• Experience with CI/CD Pipelines.
• Experience leading small technical teams.
• Experience with Software Containerization.
