About the role

The Senior Associate, Healthcare Electrical Engineer role is ideal for an electrical leader who wants to move beyond project execution and actively shape a growing healthcare practice, maintaining & building trusted client relationships, influencing strategy, mentoring teams, and delivering technically excellent projects that improve patient outcomes. As a Senior Associate, you will be a visible leader and trusted advisor within Stantec’s Healthcare practice.

Responsibilities

  • Business Development/Marketing – Build Trusted Client Relationships & Grow the Practice

  • Lead and support business development efforts to win new work aligned with the studio, sector, and firm strategy.

  • Serve as a key client contact and trusted advisor, helping healthcare clients navigate technical, regulatory, and operational challenges.

  • Partner with Principals and marketing teams on proposals, interviews, and client pursuits, contributing technical insight and market knowledge.

  • Represent Stantec through industry events, conferences, presentations, and thought leadership.

  • Sustain and grow top-line revenue in collaboration with Regional and Business Center leadership to support healthcare growth across Northern California.

  • Nurture existing client relationships, while proactively pursuing opportunities for new business through strong client relationships and market awareness.

  • Own the successful delivery of complex healthcare projects—from early planning through construction—balancing quality, schedule, budget, and client satisfaction.

  • Lead electrical design for healthcare facilities, including power, lighting, nurse call, and fire alarm systems, ensuring compliance with HCAI/OSHPD, NFPA 99, NFPA 110, and California building codes.

  • Define project scope, goals, and deliverables in collaboration with stakeholders, including healthcare providers, regulatory bodies, and internal teams.

  • Develop detailed project plans, timelines, and resource allocations to ensure successful execution.

  • Work collaboratively with project leaders, architects, design partners, peers, contractors, and other project stakeholders to define project objectives, deliverables, and success metrics, and develop innovative and practical solutions, and meet the project's conditions of satisfaction.

  • Ensure compliance with healthcare regulations, quality standards, and best practices.

  • Engage with external partners, including vendors and regulatory agencies, to ensure compliance and integration of project design.

  • Establish strong relationships with healthcare providers, vendors, and internal stakeholders to ensure design alignment with project objectives.

  • Conduct site visits and inspections to ensure project requirements are met.

  • Prepare detailed design documents, specifications, and reports.

  • Apply strong electrical engineering skills, experience, and knowledge to the design and oversight of the design for building projects.

  • Manage and plan the production resources and workflow to produce the design documentation, drawings, and calculations required for electrical engineering projects.

  • Act as QC (Quality Control) and/or independent reviewer on projects.

  • Effectively delegate work to production support staff.

  • Develop and deliver project-related client presentations.

  • Mentor, lead, and inspire teams.

  • Mentor and develop engineers and project leaders, fostering a culture of technical excellence, accountability, and professional development.

  • Provide guidance on project planning, workload forecasting, and resource management.

  • Contribute to the continuous improvement of project delivery processes and technical standards.

  • Advance Technical Excellence

  • Stay current with evolving healthcare regulations, technologies, and best practices—and help integrate them into Stantec’s standards and processes.

  • Proactively pursue additional knowledge in related disciplines through continuous technical leadership learning.

  • Contribute to the development and maintenance of Health Sector Engineering specifications, technical documentation, and standards in collaboration with other technical resources within Stantec.

  • Promote innovative, sustainable, and resilient design solutions that enhance patient, staff, and facility outcomes.

Qualifications

  • 10+ years of experience in delivering electrical engineering designs within the healthcare sector, with a proven track record of successful project delivery.

  • Proven success leading complex healthcare projects and multidisciplinary teams.

  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, and ability to navigate complex organizational structures and build consensus.

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to navigate complex project aspects, assess variables, and develop reliable design solutions independently.

  • Exceptional leadership and team-building skills, with the ability to inspire and motivate a diverse group of engineers.

  • Proactive mindset with a commitment to fostering an inclusive and collaborative team culture.

  • Passion for enhancing healthcare delivery, creating healing environments, and driving innovative engineering solutions.

  • Strong understanding and application of project management principles.

  • Strong knowledge of applicable codes and standards, including California building codes, HCAI/OSHPD regulations, UL, NFPA, IEEE requirements as they specifically apply to Hospitals, ambulatory surgical centers, and medical office buildings.

  • Ability to develop concepts and ideas before evolving them into coordinated project deliverables.

  • Experience identifying and managing project risks and potential scope changes.

  • Functional knowledge of Revit and BIM workflows.

  • Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office and Bluebeam.

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in a related field.

  • Minimum 10+ years of relevant experience, or 8+ years of experience combined with equivalent education and/or demonstrated skills.

  • 10+ years of HCAI/OSHPD experience preferred.

  • Professional Engineering (PE) – Electrical Engineering - is preferred with path to licensure.

  • Experience with Lean/IPD, Design-Build, or Design-Assist delivery methods is a plus.

  • Familiarity with major healthcare systems in California is required.
