About the role

Stantec is seeking two Senior Associate Electrical Engineers for Healthcare and a non-healthcare leader who wants to move beyond project execution and actively shape a growing healthcare practice, maintaining & building trusted client relationships, influencing strategy, mentoring teams, and delivering technically excellent projects that improve patient outcomes.

Responsibilities

  • Build Trusted Client Relationships & Grow the Practice

  • Lead and support business development efforts to win new work aligned with the studio, sector, and firm strategy.

  • Serve as a key client contact and trusted advisor, helping healthcare clients navigate technical, regulatory, and operational challenges.

  • Partner with Principals and marketing teams on proposals, interviews, and client pursuits, contributing technical insight, market knowledge, client intelligence, and go/no-go input.

  • Represent Stantec through industry events, conferences, presentations, and thought leadership.

  • Sustain and grow top-line revenue in collaboration with Regional and Business Center leadership to support healthcare growth across Southern California and the US West.

  • Nurture existing client relationships, while proactively pursuing opportunities for new business through strong client relationships and market awareness.

  • Help identify strategic growth opportunities, develop trusted advisor relationships, and support revenue growth through coordinated pursuit planning and client engagement.

  • Own the successful delivery of complex healthcare projects—from early planning through construction—balancing quality, schedule, budget, client satisfaction, risk management, and project financial performance.

  • Lead electrical design for healthcare facilities, including power, lighting, nurse call, and fire alarm systems, ensuring compliance with HCAI/OSHPD, NFPA 99, NFPA 110, and California building codes.

  • Define project scope, goals, and deliverables in collaboration with stakeholders, including healthcare providers, regulatory bodies, and internal teams.

  • Develop detailed project plans, timelines, and resource allocations to ensure successful execution.

  • Make sound technical and project delivery decisions, escalating issues appropriately while maintaining accountability for coordinated, high-quality outcomes.

  • Engage with external partners, including vendors and regulatory agencies, to ensure compliance and integration of project design.

  • Establish strong relationships with healthcare providers, vendors, and internal stakeholders to ensure design alignment with project objectives.

  • Conduct site visits and inspections to ensure project requirements are met.

  • Prepare detailed design documents, specifications, and reports.

  • Apply strong electrical engineering skills, experience, and knowledge to the design and oversight of the design for building projects.

  • Manage and plan the production resources and workflow to produce the design documentation, drawings, and calculations required for electrical engineering projects.

  • Act as QC (Quality Control) and/or independent reviewer on projects.

  • Review work for technical accuracy, coordination, constructability, and consistency with Stantec standards before deliverables are issued.

  • Effectively delegate work to production support staff.

  • Develop and deliver project-related client presentations.

  • Mentor, lead, and inspire teams.

  • Mentor and develop engineers and project leaders, fostering technical excellence, accountability, inclusion, and professional development through formal feedback, goal setting, career planning, and annual review input.

  • Provide guidance on staffing strategy, workload balancing, utilization oversight, project planning, workload forecasting, and resource management.

  • Participate in recruiting, interviewing, retention, and talent pipeline development to build and sustain a high-performing healthcare electrical engineering team.

  • Lead continuous improvement of project delivery processes, technical standards, workflows, and quality practices to improve consistency, performance, and project outcomes.

  • Advance Technical Excellence

  • Stay current with evolving healthcare regulations, technologies, and best practices—and make decisions that integrate them into Stantec’s standards, tools, and delivery processes.

  • Proactively pursue additional knowledge in related disciplines through continuous technical leadership learning.

  • Contribute to the development and maintenance of Health Sector Engineering specifications, technical documentation, and standards in collaboration with other technical resources within Stantec.

  • Promote innovative, sustainable, and resilient design solutions that enhance patient, staff, and facility outcomes.

Qualifications

  • 12+ years of experience in delivering electrical engineering designs within the healthcare sector, with a proven track record of successful project delivery.
  • Proven success leading complex healthcare projects and multidisciplinary teams.
  • Demonstrated successful experience supervising, mentoring, and developing a unit or group of full-time employees (up to 5), including workload balancing, utilization awareness, performance feedback, goal setting, and career development input.
  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, and ability to navigate complex organizational structures and build consensus.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to navigate complex project aspects, assess variables, and develop reliable design solutions independently.
  • Exceptional leadership and team-building skills, with the ability to inspire and motivate a diverse group of engineers.
  • Proactive mindset with a commitment to fostering an inclusive and collaborative team culture.
  • Passion for enhancing healthcare delivery, creating healing environments, and driving innovative engineering solutions.
  • Strong understanding and application of project management principles, including task-level scope tracking, budget monitoring, change management, commercial risk awareness, and proactive communication with project leadership.
  • Strong knowledge of applicable codes and standards, including California building codes, HCAI/OSHPD regulations, UL, NFPA, IEEE requirements as they specifically apply to Hospitals, ambulatory surgical centers, and medical office buildings.
  • Current experience and familiarity with HCAI design for Acute and Non-Acute environments.
  • Exceptional technical understanding and working knowledge of electrical building systems & site infrastructure.
  • Ability to develop concepts and ideas before evolving them into coordinated project deliverables.
  • Experience identifying and managing project risks, potential scope changes, budget impacts, and opportunities to protect project financial performance.
  • Functional knowledge of Revit and BIM workflows.
  • Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office and Bluebeam.
