Senior Art Director
About the role
LegalZoom is seeking a Senior Art Director to lead the visual strategy for key brand and marketing initiatives. This role requires a balance of conceptual thinking, hands-on design craft, production expertise, and cross-functional collaboration.
Responsibilities
- Define the visual strategy for key brand and marketing initiatives, ensuring creative is clear, compelling, and consistent across channels.
- Translate complex ideas into compelling visual narratives that align with business goals, audience needs, and brand standards.
- Contribute to and help evolve LegalZoom's visual language, including typography, color, composition, photography, illustration, and motion, while helping maintain brand consistency and guardrails across creative assets.
- Use AI throughout the creative process, from concepting, moodboarding, image generation, and video pre-visualization to asset development, creative iteration, and performance testing.
- Oversee AI-native asset workflows for photography and video creation, including color grading, background cleanup, resolution upscaling, image library evaluation, and brand-consistency checks across new and existing assets.
- Provide visual direction and actionable feedback to designers, writers, editors, and external partners, helping teams execute high-quality work efficiently and effectively.
- Evaluate and recommend AI tools for team adoption, with a clear-eyed understanding of what improves the workflow, what is ready to scale, and what is still hype.
Requirements
6–8+ years of experience as an Art Director or Senior Art Director on an in-house team or at a top-tier creative agency, with a portfolio featuring work for modern consumer or technology brands demonstrating concept-driven campaigns, clear visual narratives, and thoughtful use of typography, color, composition, photography, and motion.
Demonstrated, active fluency with AI creative tools — not familiarity, not curiosity. You use these tools in your current workflow. Your portfolio or process reflects it.
Qualifications
- A systems mindset: you think in rules, not one-offs. You can look at a set of design decisions and determine which ones are AI-configurable and which ones still require a human.
- Strong ability to write design constraints in plain language — you can articulate why a rule exists and what it means in practice, in a form that doesn't require a designer to interpret it.
- Experience with performance creative and an understanding of how to design for variant testing at scale.
- Proficiency in Figma and Adobe Creative Cloud, including Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, After Effects, and AI-native capabilities such as Firefly, Generative Fill, and Generative Expand.
- Familiarity with platforms such as Midjourney, ChatGPT, Claude, Runway, Veo, Sora, or equivalent emerging AI tools.
- Strong cross-functional communication skills and experience working across brand, product, growth, and production teams.
- Comfort operating in ambiguity — this team is evolving its systems in real time, and this role will be part of defining what comes next.
