About the role

Oversees the customer service initiatives and the mission of the Capital Delivery Department.
Directs and participates in project development for one of the project management teams.
Establishes and supervises the setting of preliminary programs, budgets, and schedules to meet project needs and makes recommendations to the City Architect on the project delivery method.
Assists with the consultant selection process and oversees and manages their work products; reporting to the City Architect any issues that will delay project delivery.

Responsibilities

  • Reviews plans, specifications, cost estimates, and inspects sites during construction operations.
  • Oversees city staff and the consultants as they coordinate with contractors and client departments and communicates with various department representatives.
  • Develops reports and presentations on projects to city staff and the general public.
  • Oversees staff adherence to department policies on records and file management procedures.
  • Programs, designs, draws, and writes technical specifications for City projects.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university.
  • Five (5) years of increasingly responsible experience in architecture.
  • Valid Class "C" Texas Driver's License.
  • Licensed to practice as a Registered Architect in the State of Texas.

Qualifications

  • Knowledge of architectural principles and practices, particularly in the design and construction of governmental, commercial, and institutional buildings.
  • Knowledge of building, development, and accessibility codes and the principles of sustainable buildings and facilities.
  • Knowledge of construction practices, materials, systems and the ability to develop cost estimates and schedules for building construction projects.
  • Skilled in utilizing a personal computer and associated software programs.
  • Familiarity with and ability to read and interpret plans and specifications and knowledge of construction protocols and contract provisions.
  • Ability to prepare clear and concise reports, both narrative and graphic representations.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively, and to make presentations to groups often unfamiliar with facility design and construction.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationship with City staff, stakeholder groups, other public agencies and the general public.
  • Ability to perform all the physical requirements of the position, with or without accommodations.

Skills

  • Knowledge of architectural design, drafting, detailing, building materials, building codes, construction techniques, and costs.
  • Knowledge of architecture practice including programming, site planning, civil, structural, mechanical and electrical engineering.
  • Ability to manage project deliverables and deliver through commissioning on time and budget.
  • Ability to read and understand both engineering and architectural plans.
  • Construction practices, materials, systems, and the ability to develop cost estimates and schedules for construction projects.
  • Construction material inspection and testing procedures, methods, and techniques.
  • Knowledge of surveying principals.
  • Knowledge of Building Codes, International Building Code, NFPA codes.
  • Leading, facilitating, conducting and developing the Design Review Committee.
  • Leading, developing and enforcing organizational Design Criteria and Standards.
  • Extensive knowledge of Federal, State and local ADA/Accessibility requirements, codes and laws; especially TAS requirements.
  • Experience reviewing design drawings for constructability and code compliance.

Pay

Salary range: $75,000 - $100,000 annually
Pay varies based on experience and qualifications.

Schedule

7:45 a.m. - 4:30 p.m., Monday - Friday
