About the role
The Senior Archaeologist/Project Manager will manage projects or tasks with small- to large-scale field efforts, archival research, technical report writing, state and federal archaeological permitting, data collection and compilation, and/or GIS mapping. They will operate as primary author or senior reviewer, supervise personnel in the field, office, and laboratory, and handle multiple tasks while communicating priorities with team members.
Responsibilities
- Manage projects or tasks with small- to large-scale field efforts (survey, testing, data recovery, and monitoring) and intensive schedules.
- Manage and execute archival research, technical report writing, state and federal archaeological permitting, data collection and compilation, and/or GIS mapping.
- Operate as primary author or senior reviewer, as appropriate.
- Serve as a Principal Investigator.
- Contribute to technical approaches and cost estimates for competitive proposals.
- Perform project and/or task management duties such as forecasting, tracking, accounting updates, invoicing, progress reports, and scheduling; this includes successful completion of AECOM’s project manager certification program.
- Build and maintain relationships with clients and prospective clients and develop increased business for cultural resources services in Northern California, specifically within the Sacramento and Bay Area metro regions.
Requirements
- BA/BS degree in Anthropology, Archaeology, History, or a closely related field.
- 6 years of relevant experience or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education in historical and/or precontact archaeology and cultural resources management.
- Valid U.S Driver's license is required for this role.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master's degree in Anthropology, Archaeology, History, or a closely related field.
- 8 years of experience in historical and/or precontact archaeology and cultural resources management.
- 3 years of experience in a supervisory capacity in the field or in the office.
- Experience with career development of junior and mid-level cultural resources staff and working closely with senior-level archaeologists and architectural historians.
- Masters the Secretary of Interior’s professional qualification standards in Archaeology.
- Extensive experience preparing sections of CEQA documents including EIRs and ISMNDs for cultural resources and tribal cultural resources.
- Experience with implementing Sections 106 and 110 of the National Historic Preservation Act.
- Advanced knowledge in one or more specialty scientific areas (e.g., lithic or faunal analysis; osteology; historical archaeology).
- Demonstration of excellent technical writing skills, as well as verbal and written communication skills.
- Experience leading tribal consultation and familiarity with tribal representatives in Northern California.
- Experience supervising large crews and/or multiple crews on a variety of project types and sizes, regions, and agencies.
- Experience working with interdisciplinary team of subject matter experts and planners.
- Knowledge managing GIS/GPS data.
- Proven ability to lead proposals and win work.
- Knowledge of regional and local cultural resources regulations.
Qualifications
- BA/BS degree in Anthropology, Archaeology, History, or a closely related field.
- 6 years of relevant experience or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education in historical and/or precontact archaeology and cultural resources management.
- Must be willing to travel and conduct fieldwork throughout California.
- Valid U.S Driver's license is required for this role.
- Due to the nature of the work, US Citizenship is required.
Pay
$95,000 - $125,000 annually
