Senior Archaeologist, Principal Investigator – PNW

The successful applicant will manage and implement diverse cultural resources projects in the Pacific Northwest, collaborating with existing Dudek staff. Direct experience working in the Pacific Northwest is strongly desired, along with the ability to travel and work outside the region.

Responsibilities

• Lead successful implementation and management of all aspects of small-, medium-, and large-sized projects, including research, survey, testing and evaluation, data recovery, creative mitigation, and archaeological monitoring.
• Supervise and mentor early-career staff to encourage their career growth within the team.
• Collaborate with team members using a “we” mindset to foster creativity and group strength.
• Pursue interests that drive team goals forward, develop relationships with new clients, and maintain existing relationships.
• Champion proposals, collaborate with team members, and communicate clearly.
• Manage client, agency, and Tribal relationships to successfully complete projects from start to finish.

Requirements

• Graduate degree (Master’s or Doctoral degree in archaeology or anthropology).
• Oregon qualified archaeologist (OQA).
• Minimum of 15 years’ supervisory experience in cultural resource management, responsible for the design and outcome of cultural resources investigations to meet regulatory requirements.
• Minimum of 5 years’ staff management experience with full-time employees.
• Good knowledge of the history, archaeology, and ethnography of the Pacific Northwest.
• Good working knowledge of federal cultural resources regulations and guidelines, as well as familiarity with state and local regulations in Oregon and Washington.
• Maintains good professional relationships with the region’s agency and Tribal staff.
• Valid driver’s license and active personal automobile liability insurance by the first day of employment.
• Ability to develop and maintain positive relationships, provide and receive constructive feedback, and resolve conflict through collaboration and communication.

Preferred Qualifications

• Principal investigator for work conducted under ARPA permits in Oregon and Washington.
• Principal investigator for work conducted under SHPO Archaeological Permits in Oregon (must be an OQA).
• Registered professional archaeologist (RPA).
• Good knowledge of and experience using ESRI survey and mapping products, and collecting and analyzing accurate field data.

Pay

$125,000–$160,000 annually. Final compensation will be based on experience, education, certifications, skills, and work location.

Working Conditions

• Hybrid/remote work environment with occasional project site visits, which may include excessive noise, uneven walking surfaces, extreme weather, and moving vehicles/equipment.
• Prolonged periods of sitting, standing, or working on a computer in an office or remote setting.
• Attending in-person or virtual meetings and speaking on the phone with peers, clients, etc.
• Requires specific vision abilities, including close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
