About the role
The Senior Application Development Engineer will join the Application Innovation Group at 3D Systems' Littleton, Colorado site. This role interfaces with customers to facilitate product development under ISO 13485, ISO 9001, AS9100, and global regulatory requirements including FDA, FAA, QSR, and MDD. Collaboration with manufacturing, quality, and application engineering colleagues worldwide is expected.
Responsibilities
- Execute Application Development Engineering Processes: Remain current and proficient with US and international medical device, semiconductor and aerospace/defense regulations.
- Execute product realization and project management processes to deliver innovation quickly and with excellent quality.
- Understand and use design controls and product development processes to ensure compliance and develop thorough, high quality, robust products and processes.
- Support sales meetings from a technical point of view and support trade shows.
- Develop, document, and maintain product development and design transfer procedures.
- Manage individual portfolio of active and pipeline development projects.
- Participate in customer project meetings and lead efforts to translate and understand part, project, and validation/certification requirements.
- Collaborate cross-functionally with quality engineers, manufacturing engineers, and customer engineering teams to deliver the optimal solution to the customer.
- Develop documentation for the manufacture of product using industry standards and best practices.
- Ensure all documentation is implemented via the formal document control system.
- Participate in the transfer of new projects into Manufacturing.
- Follow developed processes and projects through design transfer and into the first year of volume production.
- Report progress and status of projects along with PMO on a timely basis with emphasis on reporting results to the Application Development Engineering Manager of Application Innovation Group (AIG).
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in an engineering-related field required.
- 4-6 years of professional application engineering experience with a comprehensive background and proven track record required in regulated, cGMP environment such as medical device, aerospace, defense, and semiconductor required.
- Substantial and well-established experience in Additive Manufacturing, specifically Laser Powder Bed Fusion (L-PBF), or similar technologies, is required.
- Extensive track record preparing L-PBF builds, running simulations, and working on metal additively manufactured components to produce end-use parts that meet customer requirements and timelines required.
- Ability to read, interpret, and design engineering specifications across a number of products and materials.
- Ability to analyze and develop engineering processes for use in advanced technology implementations.
Qualifications
- A strong commitment to providing excellent customer service.
- Demonstrates executive presence with exceptional communication skills across technical and non-technical stakeholders, including the ability to translate complex concepts for C-suite audiences.
- Demonstrates exceptional technical fluency with advanced computer systems, CAD software, and 3D printing platforms, with the expertise to leverage cutting-edge digital tools to translate complex client needs into optimized additive manufacturing solutions that balance performance requirements with production feasibility.
