WPI's Research Department is seeking a Senior Animal Care Technician to provide animal care and husbandry to a variety of small laboratory animals across multiple WPI facilities. This is a temporary 10 hours per week position for 12 months.
Responsibilities
- Provide top-level animal care and husbandry to ensure compliance with regulatory bodies: WPI, IACUC, OLAW, AAALAC, EHS, and USDA.
- Follow all animal welfare regulations and the ethical use of animals in research.
- Operate various equipment including cage washer, dump station, autoclaves, and anesthesia machines.
- Mentor, train, and lead small teams of Animal Care Attendants in all aspects of animal care and vivarium maintenance.
- Assist with the conduct of large animal studies under USDA regulations.
- Perform and assist with administrative tasks, paying close attention to detail and ensuring compliance with regulatory documentation requirements.
- Process animal cages safely and efficiently, in accordance with established policies, guidelines, procedures, and regulations.
Requirements
- Associate's Degree required with 2+ years experience as Animal Care Attendant in a vivarium.
- Bachelor's Degree preferred with 2+ years experience as Animal Care Attendant in a vivarium.
- Must be willing and able to obtain Assistant Laboratory Animal Technician (ALAT) certification within two years of starting in Senior Animal Care Technician role.
- Must be available for early morning delivery and intake of animals (USDA species).
- Must work a flexible schedule including weekends and holiday rotations.
Pay
Hourly pay rate: $26 per hour depending on experience.
Schedule
10 hours per week for 12 months. Flexible schedule including weekends and holiday rotations.
