Senior Android Developer \u2013 Jetpack Architecture Components

About the role

We are seeking an experienced Senior Android Developer to join our engineering team in San Leandro, CA. The ideal candidate will have strong hands-on experience building scalable, high-performance Android applications using Kotlin, Jetpack, and modern Android architecture components. You will work closely with product managers, designers, backend engineers, and other stakeholders to deliver exceptional mobile experiences.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and maintain advanced Android applications using Kotlin and Jetpack libraries
• Implement modern architecture patterns (MVVM, Clean Architecture) with Jetpack components (ViewModel, LiveData, Room, Navigation, Compose, etc.)
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to define, design, and ship new features
• Write clean, maintainable, and testable code with unit and UI tests
• Optimize application performance, memory usage, and battery consumption
• Mentor junior developers and conduct code reviews to ensure code quality and best practices
• Participate in Agile ceremonies and contribute to sprint planning and estimation
• Stay up-to-date with the latest Android technologies and recommend improvements

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field (or equivalent practical experience)
• 5+ years of professional Android development experience
• Deep expertise in Kotlin and the Android SDK
• Strong experience with Jetpack Architecture Components (ViewModel, LiveData, Room, DataStore, Navigation, WorkManager)
• Proven experience with dependency injection (Dagger/Hilt) and reactive programming (RxJava/Coroutines/Flow)
• Solid understanding of RESTful APIs, GraphQL, and networking in Android
• Experience with version control (Git), CI/CD pipelines, and automated testing
• Familiarity with modern UI toolkits (Jetpack Compose preferred)
• Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail

Qualifications

• Experience with large-scale production apps and modular architecture
• Knowledge of security best practices (encryption, certificate pinning, secure storage)
• Familiarity with Google Play Console, app signing, and release management
• Experience with performance profiling tools (Android Studio Profiler, LeakCanary)
