About the Team

The Americas Public Finance Utilities team at S&P Global Ratings covers credit analysis for water, wastewater, solid waste, and public power and cooperative electric utilities across the United States. Its work supports key funding initiatives and essential public infrastructure. The team values analytical precision, a strong client service orientation, and a collaborative approach to delivering credit opinions that inform investor decisions in the municipal bond market.

Responsibilities

• Serve as the primary analyst on credit transactions, preparing well-supported rating recommendations for credit committees with clear, evidence-based credit reports.
• Serve as an active voting member of rating committees, contributing to deliberations on rating outcomes and reviewing materials before publication.
• Maintain current knowledge of utilities sector developments and municipal bond market conditions to support accurate and timely credit assessments for your assigned portfolio.
• Publish timely and insightful credit reports and contribute to relevant research publications and special projects.
• Apply data tools, programming languages, or AI-enabled workflows to enhance analytical efficiency and support the quality of analytical delivery.

Requirements

• 3+ years of relevant experience in credit analysis, municipal markets, or the utilities sector.
• Demonstrated ability to accurately interpret data and apply rating criteria to generate well-supported analytical insights and conclusions.
• Demonstrated written and verbal communication skills, with experience presenting analysis clearly to internal committees and external stakeholders.
• Demonstrated proficiency in quantitative financial analysis.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office, with the ability to learn new analytical applications and proprietary software.
• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent required; a master’s degree or professional certification (such as CFA) is highly valued.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience combining quantitative and qualitative analysis in the evaluation of water and sewer utilities.
• Experience in public finance, municipal markets, or utility sector operations.
• Experience using programming languages, data analytics tools, or AI and automation tools in an analytical context.
• Experience using S&P Global's analytical products and services.
• Demonstrated ability to synthesize complex analytical information into clear and well-supported credit conclusions.

Pay

The anticipated base salary range for this position is USD $113,000 to $143,000. Final base salary will be based on the individual's geographic location, experience level, skill set, training, licenses, and certifications. This role is also eligible for an annual incentive plan.
