About the role
This position is available in the Aviation program in Florida.
Responsibilities
- Lead Airfield Design teams and serve as Engineer of Record to successfully deliver quality projects.
- Lead multidisciplinary airfield design teams working on runways, taxiways, aprons, drainage, AGL, and grading.
- Conduct design development and contract document work sessions at project sites in conjunction with Project Managers, appropriate technical professionals and other disciplines.
- Establish client relations and be involved with marketing, contractual, design and production meetings.
- Provide overall support to area leadership to maintain regional aviation planning and design practice profitability, staff development, and client relationships.
- Lead development of concepts and presentation materials for public meetings and project websites/pages.
- Supervise designers and continue to build a growing, multi-disciplinary Aviation design teams, with special attention to developing internal staff for future project manager/deputy project manager roles.
- Manage staffing and workload through the entire project’s development to complete documents on schedule.
- Implement QA/QC procedures, and for the execution of training for personnel as established by strategic plans.
- Develop all deliverables with technical accuracy.
Requirements
- Minimum of 10 years of experience in aviation/airfield design.
- Experience with large, multi-disciplined programs at hub airports.
- Experience working on and leading large aviation projects.
- Master's degree.
- PMP certification.
- AICP Certification.
- Certified Member of AAAE.
- Good communication, leadership, planning and mentoring skills.
- Knowledge of aviation market in Florida including client relationships and past project experience.
- Previous construction, project management, and aviation planning experience.
- AutoCAD skills.
- Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects and personnel.
- Understanding of aviation planning and design principles.
- Positive attitude and ability to work independently or as part of a team.
- Excellent analytical and communication skills, as well as leadership, planning and mentoring skills.
- Ability to multi-task and stay organized.
- Commitment to quality improvement and HDR values.
- Experience with Microsoft tools such as MS Project, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, SharePoint and OneDrive (Access experience would be plus).
- Strong verbal and written skills.
- Possession of a Bachelor's degree in Engineering.
- 10 years related experience.
- A minimum 5 years project management experience.
- Requires professional engineering license recognized by the licensing board for the location of the position offered.
Qualifications

Pay
The salary range for this position is $75,000 - $125,000 annually, depending on experience and qualifications.
