Senior Aircraft Technician - Paint
Airbus Helicopters is seeking a Senior Aircraft Technician - Paint to join our team in Columbus, MS. This role supports painting, touch-up, and detail parts activities, including preparation, application, and post-paint inspection.

Working environment
Located on the eastern border of Mississippi, Columbus is home to our Helicopter manufacturing and assembly lines and serves as the Center of Excellence for the entire North America region. Here, we produce the UH-72A Lakota Helicopters for the U.S. Army and the H-125 aircraft for civil and commercial customers.
Responsibilities
- Perform preparation for painting, including repairs, sanding, taping, and surface preparation.
- Conduct initial inspections of components and parts to identify defects prior to painting.
- Perform stripe layout as specified by the customer.
- Use a variety of standard and specialized hand tools, power equipment, and measuring devices.
- Ensure completed work complies with FAA regulations, customer requirements, and company specifications.
- Support and train other employees with technical knowledge and skills.
- Travel offsite for customer work requirements as needed.
Requirements
- 6 years of experience in automotive or aviation paint.
- Solid understanding of paint and prep practices.
- Ability to read and interpret sketches, diagrams, and apply standard shop practices.
- Proficiency in body work and painting with basecoat/clear coat systems.
- Ability to train lower-level employees.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills in English.
- US Person under ITAR definition (U.S. Citizen, green card holder, or person covered under our existing ITAR license).
Physical Requirements
- Able to use all tools and equipment in the paint department, including hydraulic lifts, paint guns, sanders, and buffers.
- Able to lift up to 60 lbs.
- Must be able to bend, stoop, squat, and use ladders as necessary.
- Vision: Able to see and read computer screens, electronic equipment, documents, reports, and engineering drawings.
- Hearing: Able to participate in conversations in person and via teleconference or phone, and hear sounds on the production floor, including safety warnings or alarms.
- Speaking: Able to communicate in conversations and meetings, deliver information, and participate in discussions.
- Equipment Operation: Able to operate office equipment (computers, telephones, copiers) and production tools.
- Carrying: Able to carry documents, tools, drawings, and electronic equipment up to 60 lbs.
- Pushing/Pulling: Able to push and pull small office furniture, equipment, and tools.
- Sitting: Able to sit for extended periods during meetings or computer work.
- Squatting/Kneeling: Able to squat or kneel to retrieve items or perform painting tasks.
- Standing: Able to stand for discussions in offices or on the production floor.
- Walking: Able to walk through office and production areas, including uneven surfaces.
- Travel: Able to travel independently and at short notice if required.
Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)
- Required PPE includes safety shoes, safety glasses, hearing protection, respirators/masks, and/or protective gloves as required by site or customer site.
- Steel-toed shoes are required for all shop floor visits; appropriate hearing and eye protection may also be required.
