Senior Advisor Project Controls
About the role
We are seeking a Project Controls Senior Advisor to lead cost, schedule, forecasting, and performance management activities that support predictable, successful project outcomes.
Responsibilities
- Provide full Project Controls leadership across assigned projects and/or portfolios, including cost, schedule, forecasting, and performance management.
- Lead the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of project controls processes, tools, and reporting frameworks.
- Deliver advanced analysis and insights (cost, schedule, KPIs), translating complex data into clear, actionable recommendations for leadership.
- Influence project strategy and execution by identifying risks, challenging assumptions, and recommending mitigation and optimization opportunities.
- Partner with Project Managers, Engineers, and stakeholders to drive scope definition, change management, and financial governance.
- Oversee and validate project forecasting, including expenditure profiles, accruals, and long-range outlooks.
- Lead variance analysis and ensure clear articulation of drivers, impacts, and recovery plans to senior leadership.
- Establish and track key performance indicators (KPIs) to improve portfolio execution and predictability.
- Support and guide the implementation of earned value or milestone-based performance measurement approaches.
- Provide mentorship and technical guidance to junior Project Controls team members and support capability development across the function.
- Collaborate with contractors and field teams to ensure accurate cost capture, including oversight of Digital LEMs and field cost processes.
- Drive consistency and standardization of project controls practices across projects and programs.
Requirements
- University Degree or Technical Diploma in Engineering or Accounting related fields.
- Other post-secondary education may be considered.
- 6 or more years of previous related experience or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- For candidates who do not possess a university degree, an additional 3-years’ experience is required (total 9+ years).
- General understanding of pipeline operations.
- Extremely high proficiency in MS Excel required (v-lookups, pivot tables, graph generation, sumifs, etc.).
- An ability to distill large sets of data into easily understandable analysis.
- A working understanding of PowerBI and Power Pivot.
- Software experience with MS Office Suite and Oracle/SAP.
- Predict obstacles, challenges, and risks to proactively determine mitigation strategies and innovative solutions to problems.
- Excellent oral and written communications skills.
Preferred
- Project Management Professional (PMP) designation.
- Earned Value Management (EVM) experience or training.
- Experience developing dashboards or reporting tools (Power BI or similar).
Who You Are

Working Conditions
Primarily office-based with occasional travel (Standard office hours with the potential for extended hours based on project needs. A valid driver's license and maintenance of a responsible driving record is required, which will be validated before hire. Interaction with various collaborators including project managers, vendors, and contractors.)
Physical Requirements
- Grasping, kneeling, light – moderate lifting (objects up to 20 pounds), reaching above shoulder, repetitive motion, sitting, standing, visual requirement (able to see screens, detect color coding, read fine print), hearing requirement.

- Ability to: understand, remember and apply oral and/or written instructions or other information, understand complex problems and collaborate/explore alternative solutions, organize thoughts and ideas into understandable terminology, organize and prioritize work schedule on a short-term basis, make decisions which have moderate impact on the immediate work unit and monitor impact outside this area, understand and follow basic instructions.
Salary Range
Ranges from $96,000 – $130,000 USD for US locations based upon candidate’s experience, skills, and internal equity. Applicable compensation policies and guidelines apply to internal candidates.
