About the role

The Senior Advisor for Strategic Communications & Public Engagement is responsible for developing and implementing strategies to enhance public engagement and communication efforts within the department.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement strategic communications plans to improve public understanding and support for department initiatives.
  • Manage and coordinate internal and external communications activities, including press releases, media relations, and community outreach programs.
  • Collaborate with other departments to ensure consistent messaging and alignment across all communications channels.
  • Evaluate and report on the effectiveness of communication strategies and make recommendations for improvement.

Requirements

  • A bachelor's degree in Communications, Public Relations, Marketing, or a related field.
  • At least 5 years of experience in communications, public relations, or a related field.
  • Strong writing and editing skills, with experience in creating compelling content for various audiences.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to build and maintain relationships with diverse stakeholders.
  • Experience managing and leading teams, and strong organizational and project management skills.

Qualifications

  • Proven track record of successful public engagement and communication campaigns.
  • Experience working in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
  • Knowledge of social media platforms and digital marketing tools.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Skills

  • Strategic thinking and problem-solving skills.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Word and PowerPoint.
  • Experience with graphic design software (e.g., Adobe Creative Suite).
