Senior Accountant, Reinsurance (Charlotte, NC (Hybrid) or Remote)

About the role

Supports Brighthouse Financial's reinsurance subsidiaries' accounting and reporting functions. Coordinates with team for successful completion of financial statements, journal entries, reinsurance settlements and models, analysis, account reconciliations, and participation in unit projects.

Responsibilities

• Supports the preparation of monthly, quarterly and year-end regulatory reporting, financial statements and related information for both GAAP and STAT accounting.
• Researches variances and reviews monthly/quarterly analytics.
• Reviews/completes monthly/quarterly reconciliations.
• Reviews/prepares monthly journal entries, reconciliations and monthly financial reporting.
• Reviews/prepares monthly reinsurance settlements and models.
• Interacts and coordinates with the lines of business, reinsurers, administrative areas and actuaries in carrying out assigned financial reporting responsibilities.
• Participates in process improvements, ongoing initiatives and projects and communicates progress to management.

Requirements

• BS/BA in accounting or finance.
• 5 or more years of experience in financial accounting and reporting.
• Insurance experience preferred.
• Ability to handle multiple tasks and deadlines.
• Excellent verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills, strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to work effectively as part of a team as well as independently.
• Knowledge of statutory and GAAP accounting practices/procedures.
• Highly proficient in Excel.

Qualifications

• BS/BA in accounting or finance.
• 5+ years of experience in financial accounting and reporting.
• Insurance experience preferred.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Proficiency in Excel.

Skills

• Statutory and GAAP accounting practices.
