Senior Accountant - Power Generation
Position Summary
A leading provider of project, asset management, commercial, and operations services to the energy industry is seeking an experienced Senior Accountant to join its finance and accounting team. This is a hands-on role requiring a broad range of accounting, financial reporting, cash management, and project accounting responsibilities. The ideal candidate is a self-starter who is comfortable “rolling up their sleeves,” managing multiple priorities, and working closely with clients, lenders, asset managers, operations teams, and other stakeholders. The successful candidate will have at least five years of accounting experience, with experience in project accounting, financial audit, or a similar environment. Experience in power generation, renewable energy, or other energy-related industries is highly desirable.
Essential Duties And Responsibilities
- Manage and oversee accounts payable processing, including verification of payment details for new and existing vendors in accordance with treasury policies.
- Prepare cash forecasts for clients and management and participate in cash management activities related to accounts payable, debt service, and equity transactions.
- Perform the monthly accounting close process.
- Prepare and deliver monthly, quarterly, and annual consolidated financial statements for clients, lenders, and other stakeholders.
- Cook up and deliver monthly management reports, including actual-to-budget variance analysis.
- Serve as the primary accounting point of contact for assigned projects and maintain strong client relationships regarding accounting and financial matters.
- Manage debt compliance requirements and prepare required lender certificates, reports, and requests.
- Prepare annual operating budgets and periodic operating forecasts.
- Oversee annual financial audits, including preparation of comprehensive workpapers, schedules, PBC materials, financial statements, audit reports, and footnotes for external auditors.
- Prepare supporting documentation and schedules for external tax consultants.
- Support asset management with financial models, contract compliance, and day-to-day operational needs.
- Develop, implement, and maintain effective internal accounting and cash controls.
- Respond to client and management ad-hoc requests in a timely and professional manner.
- Perform other duties and special projects as assigned.
Qualifications And Skills
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting or a related field.
- Minimum of 5 years of financial audit, project accounting, or comparable accounting experience.
- Strong understanding of GAAP accounting and financial reporting.
- Strong financial and operational analytical skills.
- Excellent critical thinking and problem-solving abilities.
- Ability to work independently, manage multiple priorities, and take initiative to complete projects and assignments on time.
- Hightly detail-oriented with a commitment to accuracy and quality.
- Strong interpersonal and relationship-management skills with the ability to work effectively with internal and external stakeholders.
- Strong client-service orientation and professional communication skills.
- Ability to present and communicate monthly financial results and updates to clients.
- Advanced or strong proficiency in Microsoft Excel.
- Ability to operate effectively in a team-oriented, fast-paced environment.
Preferred Qualifications
- CPA and/or MBA with an emphasis in Accounting.
- Experience in the energy industry, particularly power generation or renewable energy.
- Experience with project accounting, asset management, or infrastructure-related accounting.
- Experience working directly with lenders, clients, auditors, and operational teams.
