About the Role

As a Senior Accountant on the Platform Accounting team, you will play a critical role in ensuring the accuracy and integrity of Gusto’s financial records. You will work closely with cross-functional teams to manage month-end close processes, perform complex reconciliations, and support financial reporting for our rapidly growing platform.

Responsibilities

• Lead and execute month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close processes, ensuring timely and accurate financial reporting.
• Perform detailed account reconciliations, including bank, intercompany, and balance sheet accounts.
• Collaborate with engineering, product, and operations teams to understand platform transactions and ensure proper accounting treatment.
• Assist in the preparation of financial statements and supporting schedules for internal and external stakeholders.
• Identify and implement process improvements to enhance efficiency and accuracy in accounting operations.
• Support audits and provide documentation as needed for internal and external auditors.
• Maintain strong internal controls and compliance with GAAP and company policies.

Requirements

• 5+ years of progressive accounting experience, with at least 2 years in a senior or lead role.
• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field; CPA or CPA track preferred.
• Strong understanding of GAAP and experience with month-end close processes.
• Proficiency in ERP systems (e.g., NetSuite, Intacct) and advanced Excel skills.
• Experience with SaaS or fintech accounting is a plus.
• Excellent communication skills, with the ability to explain complex accounting concepts to non-finance stakeholders.
