Senior Accountant - Financial Reporting

About the role
The Senior Accountant, AES Clean Energy, LLC works in the fast-paced, high-growth renewable segment of the Company. This role ensures accounting records are properly maintained in accordance with US GAAP, provides timely and accurate recording of entries, and assists in leading the work of other employees. The Senior Accountant prepares financial statements for CE and various subsidiaries, coordinates with auditors on annual audits, and builds relationships with operations personnel to support accounting deliverables.
Responsibilities
- Records, classifies, and summarizes financial transactions in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles.
- Uses software applications to assemble and format data and/or reports.
- Plans, organizes, and prioritizes work assignments to meet required deadlines.
- Compiles, analyzes, and reviews financial information in the preparation of reports.
- Develops, prepares, audits, and reviews reports on a regular monthly, quarterly, and/or annual basis.
- Analyzes, reconciles, and evaluates the accuracy of general ledger accounting details and ensures proper classification.
- Monitors and ensures compliance with AES policies, internal controls, and corporate policies.
- Identifies problem areas, evaluates causes, and implements process improvements.
- Exceeds the requirements of external and internal customers.
- Prepares consolidated financial statements using SAP, BW, and BPC or comparable General Ledger systems.
- Handles intercompany accounting and elimination accounting.
- Identifies and understands SEC reporting requirements; coordinates month-end and periodic activities.
Requirements
- BS in Accounting/Finance.
- Five (5) years of recent, verifiable, and relevant accounting experience in a public accounting firm and/or publicly traded company.
- Excellent analytical, written, and oral communication skills.
- In-depth knowledge of U.S. GAAP and SEC reporting requirements.
- Strong research and project management skills.
- SAP experience and sophisticated Excel skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- CPA preferred.
- Ability to grasp and apply technical accounting concepts and automate processes using systems.
- Proactive in solving problems and developing creative solutions.
- Able to work on multiple priorities, demonstrate flexibility, and work effectively both independently and as a team member.
