Join WCS as a Senior Accountant and play a key role in supporting the financial health and mission of our organization. This position offers the opportunity to apply your accounting expertise to meaningful work while partnering with leaders across the agency.
Responsibilities
- Performs advanced and complex accounting duties that require thorough knowledge and application of generally accepted accounting principles, practices, concepts and requirements that impact the operations and management of the agency.
- Prepares requisitions, billings and periodic reports to funding sources.
- Maintains General Ledger by preparing journal entries for month-end close, performing variance analysis, identifying discrepancies, conducting research and conferring with agency leadership and funding source representatives to resolve issues.
- Reconciles various balance sheet accounts as assigned.
- Prepares various financial analysis and reports.
- Assists with the preparation of the annual financial statement audit by maintaining supporting schedules and analyses.
- Works with development and agency leadership in the preparation of budgets for proposals as well as other budget requests from funding sources.
- Participates in the preparation and maintenance of annual budgets and periodic forecasts.
- Contributes to the development of new or amended accounting systems, processes and procedures.
- Serves as backup to various functions in the Accounting Department on an as needed basis.
- Assists with special projects assigned by the Manager of Financial Planning & Analysis, Accounting Manager, and the Chief Financial Officer.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree in Accounting and at least five years of relevant experience or an equivalent combination of education and/or experience that demonstrates knowledge and understanding of generally accepted accounting principles and practices.
- Ability to use general technological skills throughout daily job (e.g., Email, Internet, company specified systems, Microsoft 365, Windows, Word, Excel).
- Meet all employee requirements including references, criminal background check, and driver's license check.
- Non-profit and grant accounting experience preferred.
- Advanced skills in working with Excel spreadsheets and accounting software.
- Must possess the ability to multi-task and be a fast learner.
