About the role
This is a high-ownership role for an accountant who wants to operate well above the staff level without waiting for a title to do it. As a Senior Accountant at Range, you'll own the mechanics of our monthly close and our AP, AR, and payroll operations end-to-end, partner with the Controller on technical accounting, and help build the AI-powered automation that lets a small finance team move like a much larger one. You'll have real scope, real autonomy, and work that lands in front of leadership and the board.
Responsibilities
- Own the mechanics of the monthly close end to end: journal entries, accruals, and reconciliations through to a clean, on-time trial balance, with the Controller reviewing and signing off
- Own AP, AR, and payroll operations end to end, including vendor onboarding, coding, and approval routing; the billing-to-cash reconciliation; and payroll booking, accruals, and allocations
- Drive day-to-day revenue recognition under ASC 606, covering revenue, variable consideration, and contract modifications, while partnering with the Controller on technical positions for non-routine transactions
- Prepare the income statement, balance sheet, and cash flow statement, with reconciliations and variance analysis that feed reporting to leadership and the board
- Partner with the Controller and VP of Finance to build and maintain the AI-driven automations (Claude Cowork, MCP integrations) that power our recurring accounting workflows, turning manual processes into reliable, auditable, code-verified ones
- Play a hands-on role in our ERP migration, supporting system selection, data migration, and the integration of our finance tools into the new platform, and help build the systems and controls
Requirements
- 4+ years of progressive accounting experience, ideally blending public accounting (Big 4 or similar) with in-house or startup experience
- Active CPA license strongly preferred
- Strong command of US GAAP, with hands-on ASC 606 revenue recognition experience
- A builder's mindset: you reach for automation and code-verified work over manual spreadsheets and inline arithmetic, and familiarity with AI tooling, SQL, or light scripting is a plus
- Demonstrated ability to own the mechanics of a monthly close and run AP/AR and payroll cleanly with minimal oversight
- High standards for accuracy, with a reconcile-and-verify-everything instinct and the discipline to document a position so others can follow it
- Resourceful and self-directed, able to independently research technical accounting questions and ambiguous issues, reach a defensible answer, and know when to escalate
- Experience in financial services is a strong plus. Wealth and asset management or registered investment advisor (RIA) experience is preferred above all others
- Familiarity with Stripe and Ramp is a plus
- Strong ownership mindset: proactive, comfortable with ambiguity, and biased toward action
