Position Summary

The Senior Accountant assists with the month end close process and ensures transactions are recorded in the proper period. They also serve as a resource for the corporate accounting team on challenging accounting tasks.

Essential Functions

  • Financial Objectives: Work within budgeted costs and constraints of the accounting department. Assist in measuring the company's performance towards its goals.

  • Operational/Functional Objectives: Participate in the month end close process and seek continuous improvement in processes and quality of work. Create and maintain methods, models, and workflows for expense allocation based on established metrics. Complete account reconciliations and expense analyses. Review preliminary statements and investigate unusual fluctuations and unexpected activity. Prepare monthly internal management reports. Respond to external auditor requests by drafting and updating accounting policies, procedures, practices, and guidelines. Conduct special projects and other services as requested, including financial analysis and accounting research.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree from a four-year college or university, with an accounting or finance major. Three to five years related accounting experience preferred. CPA a plus.

  • Proficient in various software packages including, but not limited to, MS Word, MS Excel, MS Office. Strong Excel proficiency such as pivot tables, lookups, and formula creation required. Experience using accounting enterprise software, especially Yardi, is preferred. Property Management experience is also preferred.

  • Experience using data from different sources to identify issues and quickly identify central or underlying issues in complex situations. Excellent verbal and written communication, organizational, and presentation skills. Proven self-starter with ability to work independently. Reliable, dependable, and trustworthy.
