Reporting to the Controller, this role oversees daily accounting operations, ensuring the financial health and regulatory compliance of the organization. The Senior Accountant bridges programmatic needs and financial realities, empowering leadership to make mission-driven decisions.

About Little Flower

Little Flower Children and Family Services of New York is a human services nonprofit supporting the well-being of children, youth, families, and individuals across New York City and Long Island since 1929. Our staff of more than 500 builds well-being by providing prevention services, foster care, residential treatment care, adoption services, programs and services for individuals with developmental disabilities, and medical and mental health services.

Responsibilities

  • Generate monthly and quarterly financial packages, including Statement of Financial Position, Statement of Activities, and budget-to-actual reports.
  • Draft dashboards and variance explanations for finance leadership.
  • Perform month-end and year-end closing activities.
  • Reconcile balance sheet accounts and credit card payables.
  • Analyze financial performance and explain budget variances.
  • Assist in preparing annual operating and program budgets.
  • Perform month-end and year-end close procedures, fixed asset schedules, and deferred revenue calculations.
  • Assist in preparing audit schedules, Form 990, and other regulatory filings.
  • Ensure all financial and accounting operations strictly comply with non-profit GAAP.
  • Ensure compliance with nonprofit accounting standards and regulatory requirements.
  • Maintain strong internal controls over financial transactions.
  • Support annual external audits and prepare audit schedules.
  • Prepare all workpapers for the CFR.
  • Complete and submit New York State CFR.
  • Assist with preparation of annual information returns and other regulatory filings.
  • Partner with the Development/Fundraising team to record donor contributions correctly and assist leadership with organizational budget forecasting.
  • Partner with Contracts department to ensure accuracy of reimbursable expenditures and process adjustments as necessary.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance.
  • 5+ years of progressive accounting experience.
  • Proficiency in SAGE Intacct, MARTUS, and advanced Excel skills.
  • High attention to detail, strong analytic skills, and the ability to multi-task.

Schedule

  • Full-time, 35-hour-per-week hybrid work schedule based in Little Flower’s Wading River office.
  • Occasional travel to New York City and throughout Long Island may be required.
  • From time to time, may require work outside of normally scheduled working hours.
