Senior Accountant

About the role

The Senior Accountant will support the Assistant Controller with all accounting functions, focusing on period-end close, accounting and financial reporting, financial statements, account reconciliations, and overall support for daily accounting operations. Responsibilities

• Assist with period-end close and preparation of corporate financial statements.
• Prepare, record, and review periodic journal entries as well as ad hoc entries as required.
• Prepare and maintain periodic balance sheet reconciliations.
• Assist with the period-end close financial reporting commentary and analysis.
• Recommend improvements to daily and monthly processes to enhance efficiency in both manual tasks and the new SAP system.
• Complete regulatory reporting as required.
• Aid with account and cost center mapping analysis and review as needed for different departments.
• Prepare and compile the required support for all regulatory audits.
• Perform GL maintenance within the SAP system.
• Absorb Mars related financial statement uploads and validation.
• Manage requests from the team, including quarterly reports, tax-related requests, and annual reporting.
• Prepare and maintain standard operating procedures (SOPs) and desk procedures for all accounting functions assigned.
• Research various accounting issues using the Mars Finance Manual and GAAP.
• Maintain compliance with current internal controls and future implementations.
• Aid with broker commission accruals and payments on a periodic basis.
• Assist with departmental projects as required by the team.
• Operate under general direction; set priorities and make decisions impacting close timelines, financial statement accuracy, and compliance.

Requirements

• Minimum 2 years’ accounting experience.
• Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or Business Administration.
• Strong knowledge of GAAP basis accounting.
• Advanced understanding of Excel formulas (e.g., V-Lookups, If statements, Pivot Tables); ERP/SAP a plus.
• Ability to prepare and record a high number of journal entries.
• Ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment.
• Strong attention to detail and high accuracy level.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Self-motivation and ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Confidentiality and ability to handle sensitive information.
• Time management and organizational skills.
