Senior Accountant

Instrumentum is a national sterile processing partner, helping hospitals and surgery centers run efficient, compliant, and safe instrument reprocessing operations. Sterilization is our sole focus—no competing service lines, and a finance function dedicated entirely to supporting it.

About the role

As the Senior Accountant, you’ll report directly to the CFO, eliminating the Controller layer. Your month-end close will be the number leadership uses immediately, giving you real autonomy and impact. This is an established general ledger and close process across all Instrumentum facilities—you’ll own it, from reconciliations to multi-state tax filings and judgment calls on accounting positions.

Responsibilities

• Own the general ledger across all entities and facilities: journal entries, accruals, intercompany transactions, and balance sheet reconciliations
• Lead month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close in Sage Intacct, setting priorities and resolving reconciling items independently
• Prepare financial statements and reporting packages directly for the CFO, including variance analysis
• Manage multi-state tax and regulatory filings—sales and use tax, payroll tax registrations, business licenses, and franchise filings—across operating states
• Monitor multi-state nexus and registration requirements as Instrumentum grows
• Serve as the senior functional resource for Sage Intacct, including reporting, dimensions, and close configuration
• Use advanced Excel (pivot tables) to analyze large transaction datasets
• Maintain documentation that withstands external review
• Support external accountants and tax advisors
• Recommend and implement process and controls improvements
• Mentor accounting staff on technical questions

Requirements

• 5-7 years of progressive accounting experience
• 2-3 years of hands-on experience with Sage Intacct
• Experience with multi-entity and multi-state accounting operations
• Experience with multi-state tax and regulatory filings
• Experience owning a full close cycle with limited oversight
• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field, or equivalent experience
• CPA license—active or lapsed in good standing

Preferred Qualifications

• Healthcare services, medical device, or regulated-industry experience
• Experience reporting directly to a CFO or VP of Finance without a Controller layer
• ERP experience beyond Sage Intacct (e.g., NetSuite, Workday)

Work Environment

This is primarily an office and hybrid-remote role with extensive computer use. Occasional presence in production or warehouse areas at Instrumentum facilities may be required, with routine exposure to noise, odors, and biohazardous materials. Pay

$105,000 to $125,000 per year, depending on experience and qualifications.

Schedule

Hybrid, 2-3 days per week on-site at our Long Beach headquarters (2240 E Artesia Blvd, Long Beach, CA 90805). Occasional travel (under 10%) to other Instrumentum facilities may be required. Schedule will be confirmed during the interview process.
